Default Seat Belt Bolts

There appear to be two types of seat belt bolts, short ones and long one.
Is there an accepted wisdom as to which is used at the base on the belt and which is used up on the rear shelf / top of the belt?
I expect these are after market for a Series 2 car. They all look a little different from one another too.

short bolt, long bolt

about M11 or 12 size.

in my 1984, the rear shelf bolts are medium-short length and have regular thick heads. Takes a 5/8" socket and a short wobble adapter with 3/8" ratchet for removal. I have never had to remove the other front belt bolts.

The shorter bolt is for anchoring the retractor reel to the body and the longer bolt is for the upper belt attaching point. Ususally there is a special washer/spacer on the upper which allows the belt guide to pivot freely.

I've always been paranoid trying to drive the bolt ten foot into the body but i did a measure of the number of thread ringsand as you see in image there are only about ten of them, maybe a half inch or depth. anyone has a picture of the 'spacer' mentioned above or know what the '12' on the bolt head means?

fairly shallow,man

the 12 is the strength grade or "class" of the bolt. The higher the number, the stronger the bolt.
Common classes are 5, 8, 10, and 12.

SAE ( inch) bolts are typically graded 2, 5 and 8, and are indicated by hash marks on the head, less two. So a grade 5 bolt has 3 hash marks. Metric bolts are generally graded 8, 10 and 12 and also have a decimal. So you might see 8.8, 10.8, 10.9 etc, where the higher number is greater strength.

For your car, I highly doubt the captive nut on the body is metric, I'm pretty sure all the Series 3 car seatbelt fixings are inch sized, so Series 2 should be as well.

Here is a photo of the upper anchor stepped washer, it's against the pillar. That way the anchor bolt can be tightened, but the belt guide can swivel.

Default tags and angles

any hints on the tags, angle braces and what crosses over what in putting the rear belts back in? do the floor one also require stepped spacers?

in my 1984, the tags are visible, towards the outside, as far as I know, the body belts have not been removed ever. I have removed the two reels in the rear parcel shelf, but nothing else.
