Default Series III Grille

I have a ding in my grille and otherwise it’s in perfect condition. The chrome looks brand new with no pits or other flaws. I can’t find a replacement that doesn’t have worn-looking chrome so I’m thinking of buying a grille and having it re-chromed. What kind of metal are these grilles made from? Steel, aluminum, stainless?

Dunno.

1. Take yours out. Not that hard. Take it to the chrome shop and let them opine and estimate. You may be shocked/

2. Get a better one from David Boger at everydayxj. Good guy. great service. reasonable. good stuff.

I think steel. If not, the older 1960's grilles were.

Just find a chrome restorer who will fix yours, it will have to be rechromed anyway, and make sure they triple chrome it, That's how Jaguar specified the chrome parts.

My chrome guy is in a different state. David is awesome, but last I checked, he didn’t have one with perfect chrome. I need one from a low mileage car. I can’t seem to fine one, so I want to do it myself.

I do want to re-chrome one. My chrome guy is in a different state and he asked what kind of metal the grille is. Thanks for the advice on the triple chrome!

Thank you for the pictures. I can’t tell the condition very well. Is there any damage anywhere? How is the chrome? My car only has 30k miles so the chrome looks new.

The dent suggests stainless steel. That can be worked with a soft tool. any marks sanded and polished away.

it also indicates it is not plastic or pot metal.

Is it magnetic respondent? Steel

My have a layer of brass under the chrome or even copper...

Or, just mail it to the chrome guy, Not that hard.

David will do you right. I get parts from him too, and I never received a bad part. He is our favorite used parts supplier here in the States.
