By the time yours was built I think production was down to 50 or 100 cars per month. Someone here will know. But, in any case, very limited production. And quite expensive at the time.
Black leather in any Series III is a bit unusual.
The "federal" tag means it was built to something other than UK specs.
thank you very much for your reply and kind words. actually the combination is navy blue leather and brown seatbelts. Looking through auctions nowhere in Europe I could not find such a combination and I started to search more about my car.
Hopefully Gregory Andrachuk will see this thread and chime in. He knows a great deal about these cars.
As for "custom made", well, we might be getting into automotive semantics. I don't see anything unique. It's a fair bet that the car was built to order in terms of paint color and trim (such as the red piped leather) but that was not unusual in and of itself.
This lovely car is part of the final production year for the Jaguar Sovereign Series III V12. And yes, the interior colour is blue but with optional contrasting piping. Very nice indeed.
Doug is (as aways) correct in his statement regarding the FEDERAL tag. This does NOT refer to the US in any way; it was the factory indicator that the car as produced met non-UK specifications, and more specifically that it met the regulations of its destined market.
What that original market was can be verified by a Heritage certificate, available from Jaguar, and it certainly could have been Germany. The V12 Series III continued in production after 1986 for only a handful of countries, Germany, the UK, Japan and Canada. This white car was part of the Jaguar Sovereign V12 production.
I should note here that the V12 cars for Canada were different in specification from this white car. For 1986 and 1992 model years they were taken from the Daimler Double Six line; for the model years 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991 the cars for Canada came from the Sovereign V12 line - but badged as Jaguar V12 Vanden Plas; fitted with Daimler wood and leather instead of vinyl for door panels, but with the Sovereign seats as seen in the OP’s beautiful white car, among other items. The ‘87 and ‘92 cars were taken directly from the Daimler Double Six line, fully optioned and with specific items for Canada (bonnet-mounted washers, mudflaps, coolant preheater…these additional items were on all the V12 cars for Canada whether the car was from the Sovereign or the Daimler line. I trust that I have properly confused the reader….
This car was recovered from a field about 15 years ago, filled with wasps and mold. Quite a wonderful car now.
added 7" main beam rear guard lights...added new full wood dash including steering wheel added VDP rear console veneer on dash console, including ski ramp, with USB and 12v receptacle the boot is ready for.....something. converted to European lighting
I'm sorry, I don't know what happened. The post immediately above of the 1983 XJ6 was intended for the post asking for pictures of cars. I don't know how it got attached to this post about the very nice 1991 white XJ12.
Does anyone know how to delete it here and move it to the correct string?
