I'm reaching out to see if anyone has bought aftermarket steel bumpers to replace their US rubber bumpers. If so where did you get them and is the quality good? I've seen a couple for sale on facebook but the seller looks sketchy.
Not sure if this is helpful or even related, but....
There's an outfit in Vietnam manufacturing SS bumpers for all sorts of cars. I bought a pair for my TR6. Look great, fit fine, and took only 5 days to arrive. Ebay. I'm 99% sure they offer bumpers for older Jags.
the guy in Vietnam is the one in Facebook. I have seen his ad. Seems honest and has been around for years. Find out if your purchase is covered by Buyer's Protection, or pay with a CREDIT CARD that you can chargeback if no delivery.
Be aware there are 2 different suppliers of these pieces in Vietnam. One has been doing it quite a while- Group Harrington- and we have used them probably 10 times over the last few years. The other supplier is relatively new and (at least to me) virtually unknown. They popped up on Ebay one day, I noticed, but my contact at Harrington was very specific that they were a completely different company (I think this is the autobumper guys below). I Emailed them, introduced myself and asked for more pics, but never received anything ..
One last note- regardless of where you get the bumpers, the front unit requires completely different mounts/hood hinges than you have on your car now. These "European" pieces are long out of production, so quite a stretch to find. We're beginning to make compatible new front and rear mount pieces (including the revised hood hinges), and plan to offer them in the near future. I'll post some recent pics soon so you can see ...
