Default Antenna mast

Bent my antenna last night. I am trying to remove the old mast. Ive got the retaining nut off but the mast will not pull out. I get it fully extended but then I get a hard stop and it won't pull any further. Am I missing something?

Docmace, if you add what year XJS you have in your sig/tag it would be helpful. Not sure if all varients used the same antenna.

If you have a Hirschman antenna with a serrated nylon wire the mast is a Jag spare part, and inexpensive too. It says Hirschman on the plastic cover. Switch on the ignition, hold/pull on the mast. Keep holding and have an assistant switch off the ignition. Once it has stopped trying to pull down the mast on with the ignition again and pull. Repeat until mast with toothed fibre wire is out.

sometimes the metal sleeve at the top gets corroded and needs to be removed before you install the replacement (I read that on my replacement mast installation instructions I got on ebay)

There should be a delay relay that keeps the aerial up for about 20 seconds after the radio is switched off, and then it comes down. This relay needs to be earthed to work properly, and it may be that it is not?

Also check the fuse.

Several threads across all the model sections on the forum from members infuriated with the automatic aerial raise/lower. Some pull the fuse to stop it raising at all; others to keep it permanently raised.

On your X308, it's in the Luggage Compartment Fuse Box which is next to the battery.

Fuse No #9 (10 amp)
