Brake warning light, '88 XJS
While the motor is out and since i have redone the front suspension and I need to refill the brake fluid reservoir and bleed the brakes....
The brake warning light would randomly come on ever since i owned the car, even with the fluid at the proper level.
Is there some way to clean, or check, or do anything to the brake fluid level sensor so that the warning light comes on as it should, only when the fluid level is low?
Thanks,
Doug

If you have a non ABS car with the remote round reservoir, then the float switch is notorious for the cork float becoming a bit "waterlogged" with the brake fluid.
New one cap and float assemblies can be bought but they are ridiculously dear.

It is possible to carefully take the float apart and renew the cork, or fit into the old cap a float assembly, suggestions for aftermarket caps here:

or, fit an entire aftermarket reservoir, as I have done:

But be carful to retain the OEM remote tubes to the master cylinder as the hoses need to be stepped down from 8mm on most aftermarket reservoirs, even if you renew the flexible pipes the metal bits may be needed. Or you will need aftermarket reducers.

Looking at it, it is pretty simple in operation, but not so simple to disassemble, but it can be done. I am just not sure of the "best" way to get it open, such that it is easily reassembled and reliable. I suppose i could always just cut (or jump) the wires so the light doesn't ever come on. I never had a car before that nannied me so much on things like brake fluid level, or had heated windshield washer fluid.
