Hi Paul

I've been trying to go the easyout route but I still can't get it to bite, because I think I need to drill the hole in the broken bleed nipple down deeper which I can only do by hand because of lack of space, where as such it seems to be taking forever

But even so might be quicker than taking out the Cage, as undoing that Brake Pipe won't be easy and then of course the Speedo Sensor also has to come out

I know that you have done this before but you've got Outboard Brakes, which possibly gives you more room to manoever but I'll just have to keep at it, as giving up isn't an option no matter how long it takes

Hi Daim

That's an interesting option which I will look into but I don't want to take the Cage out if I don't have to because all the running gear is good on this Car

But even so I'd be tempted to renew it all anyway just as a matter of course, because if you've got the Cage out then there would never be a better time to do that

And so before I get into that I will give the easyout method one more try

Don't forget: if you take the sensor out, you'll want to drain the diff oil. Also possibly have some issues with aligning it properly and getting it tightend up.

I’ve never had a problem with removing the sensor. Granted it’s a little fiddly but that’s all. Small socket should do it ok. Can’t help but think you could have had the cage out by now. It is the easiest way as other more knowledgeable members have said and gives you the option of making sure all is 100%.

Hi Brinny

I have a Plan to get the Brake Nipple out, which I want to try first and if that doesn't work then I'll have to take the Cage out and then I've got another XJS that needs fixing after that

Too many Cars and not enough time.....

Hi Brinny

Cheers!

You need a Sense Of Humor, to own one of these Cars which is an instruction that you won't find in the Manual or at least the Manual that I haven't got

But I couldn't pull out the IRS without replacing many things that really don't need replacing at the moment and getting that pesky Brake Nipple out is the kind of a Challenge, that I just cannot resist

Chapter 89

Will The Next Contestant Please Step Forward!

Not Another One!
Here at Orange Blossom Towers, theres never a dull moment but She's not strictly speaking another one in the another one sense of the work but another one of the Fleet had her Fuel Pump pack up

Quite simply as She is regarded by me as a little bit too nice to use, which as every XJS Owner should know, is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, when it comes to owning an XJS or any Jag for that matter

As with an XJS its a case of you either use it or lose it (ask me how I know or rather don't) as if I had used her a little bit more, the chances are the Fuel Pump would still be working now

Where to make matters a little bit worse, She's got an 'In-Tank' Fuel Pump, which doesn't make this job as easy as it would have been on an earlier V12 but there you go

But 'Carmen' is a bit Special being a 1995 Low Mileage Celebration Convertible Automatic in Morocco Red, which is a deep rich Ruby sort of Colour, which gives her a very expensive yet understated look

Which seems to be commensurate with her eye watering price tag when She was new and She still looks pretty much out of the box and Showroom Fresh to-day

With her Stunning Cream Connelly Leather Hide Seats and Walnut Interior, which looks as if the Seats have never been sat on as I really took care of this Car and in some respects just maybe a little bit too much

As She attracted attention like a Magnet, where on the one and only time I took her Shopping, where I parked her in a virtually empty Car Park, I had to leave the Shopping at the till, for as I looked out of the Window

There was such a Crowd of people gathered round her, that made me so paranoid, that I got in and just drove her away and then returned to get my Shopping later in my less conspicuous little Merc

But now She needs a New Fuel Pump and so in order to do that, the Petrol Tank has to come out and that's already out, where the only delay in fixing her, is that I'm right in the middle of fixing 'The Ice Princess'

Its a little bit like Spinning Plates, its just one thing after another, which I think is clearly down to having too many Cars as while many People do enjoy driving different Cars

I just keep buying the same model Car over and over again, where to be quite honest I'm really running out of space to keep them except the thought of selling one would be worse than Watching England take that Penalty Shoot out all over again!

So in between fixing 'The Ice Princess' '50 Shades' my Grey XJS and also 'Cherry Blossom' I'll get back to work on 'Carmen' and fit a New Fuel Pump

The 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' Carmen my 4.0L Celebration XJS

I think I'm falling in love again, they don't get much better than this

Sunshine Supercar 'Carmen'

'In da Hood' with 'Carmen'

'Carmen's' an absolute Stunner if ever there was one!

A Shine so deep, if you fell in then you would never climb out

Immaculate Cream Connelly Hide Interior

AJ16 4.0L 6 Cyl Engine

Hi Daim

Is there a Helpline number, that someone like me can dial, or have I got past the point of being saved

Hi Daim

I'm finding it hard to be humble, so I won't even bother to try but in case you hadn't noticed 'Carmen' came with her own Phone for Phoning err... Home,

Hands Free obvs and even cuts out the Harmon Kardon unbelievably awesome Sound System if a Call comes in, except it seems to have got lost in 'the mists of time' and I haven't been able to find another one like it

All I can tell you is that its sort of curved and made around 1995

Maybe I'll put a shout out on the Forum, someone is bound to know

Any ideas?

Moroccan Red is one of my favourite Jag colours. Gorgeous.
And with all those cars, I'm in awe of the space you must have on your estate at Orange Blossom Towers....

Hi Someday

Quite a rare Color I believe, as they don't seem to have a photo of one on the XJS Data Website

It's a lovely deep rich Color that looks amazing with Cream Leather

It always reminds me of Summer and looking at her just now, its almost time for a glass of Pimms and Cucumber Sandwiches, with the Crusts cut off

Don't get me wrong, OB, but all I see is a black car!?

I must say though, that I am partiell colour blind and can only tell colours in their 'normal' state, i.e. red, blue, green, yellow without dark or öight/pastelle in front... Which is why I always choose a very bold colour for my cars... One I can see

Is it like a very dark red or something like that?

It's a stunning colour, Daim. Here's a coupe in OB's car's colour: 4.0 Litre Coupe
Here's a nice large pic of an XJ40 in the same shade.

Chapter 89

'Carmen's' Car Key Is Stuck In The Ignition!

More problems when will it end, as 'Carmen's' Ignition Key is Stuck in the Ignition and won't either turn or come out

If you look at the Photo you will see that the Ignition Key is half way to position one or two but the Key won't turn in either direction and it won't come out

Also the Steering is Locked and won't Unlock

The Key won't turn in either direction, I can't get it out of the Barrel and the Steering won't unlock

With those older columns, you should be abe to remove the cowl with the key in place and then see into the lock. You can actually remove the lock really easily (just a pin to press in... NOT KIDDING!!!) and then work on it out of the car...

Ah, on the XJ40 you can see it. Like a Cherry Red?

Hi Daim

If I go and remove the Cowl, should I give the Key Barrel, a bit of a Tap with a FBH? as one of the levers in the Lock has probably got stuck
