Default Delanair MkIII Help

I’m hoping that someone here might be able to help with this issue:

I’m looking for the actual size of the MkIII unit, or the size of the space behind the dashboard that the heater / AC unit occupies.
Has anyone had experience with replacing the AC unit in their XJS?

The summary is that my Delanair has developed a host of problems and I’m researching a completely new aftermarket install, but need the dimensions to proceed. Ideally before removing the entire interior of the car.

Thanks in advance!

l would suggest a measurement of the area in which the unit is installed might be an easier approach. It's not going to be an easy conversion l expect.
l would ordinarily go measure one of my shells for you but away for another few days.

I have a spare Mk III in my garage. I will get the dimensions.

It is 16 " across, 16' tall, 12' front to rear, and 45" across the top mounting bar.

This is with the blower motors detached

Somewhere in this thread there is an example of fitting an aftermarket system to an XJ-S.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-world-244431/

Edit: Looks like it starts on page 10.

I have a feeling that Old Air make something that might fit the 16" width.

Yes indeed. Taking the Delenaire III out is a MJOR undertaking.

Thank you Greg, I’m seeing several that might fit! Have you had any experience with Old Air products?

I have not, I am afraid; but they have been widely used in the aftermarket. When my Delanair packs up I thought theirs might fit in the space available. If you find one that does, please let us know.

Today I ordered a Hurricane 1100 kit from Old Air, the complete system from condenser to compressor to the in dash system.
I’ll follow Thorsen’s example and document everything for a full writeup in a new thread.

Good for you! That will be a very useful and important resource. Do please document particularly how you fit the unit into the body framework under the dash, which I see as the most difficult aspect of fitting any aftermarket aircon system to the XJS.
