Driving lights wiring
Does anyone know how it is supposed to be wired up? I'll take a pic tomorrow if i remember, but it is the panel under the driver's side dash, i unhooked the wires on the dimmer and when i put them back on either the lights didn't work at all or all except the driving lights worked. I did it a long time ago and i had that panel out for a while when it happened so i forgot how it was hooked up.
thanks!
thanks!
I'm not exactly following. That switch can be really faulty and it can make the cluster lights fail. Are you sure that you put the 3 wires back in the right order? (i messed that up once) also maybe blown a fuse?

no im not sure i put them back in the same order correctly thats what im asking about.
i feel like an idiot for not thinking about the fuses haha. I just looked and the one for the fog lights is definitely burned out. I switched it with another to check and they still didn't work. I must have melted it during one of the other configurations i was trying out.
heres how mine is wired and all lights work except the fog lights

Maybe I'm a bit dense (just had two teeth pulled and am poppin' pain killers!!) but I can't make heads nor tails of what yer talkin' about.
Are you saying the fog lamps are not working as a result of messing with the panel light rheostat ....or what?
And what year is your XJS? There were a couple different fog lamp circuit arrangements over the years....
Cheers

yes, i know it seems stupid but this is all i have messed with. I unplugged these when i had the key made for it and when i plugged them back in i either couldn't get any lights to work or got all except the fog lights working. There could have been an arrangement where only the fogs worked i don't remember. This was nearly a year ago just after i first got it. so i dont remember too well.
its an '88.
There is another connector as you can see, am i missing a wire that could be up in the dash somewhere?

So at this point you have all the lights working except the fog lights. And the fuse was blown but when you swapped it they still didn't work. Is voltage getting to the fuse? Did the new fuse blow when you put it in?
oh yeah i guess i forgot to say, no it didn't blow. I haven't voltage yet, will 2morrow if i can find my meter

Shouldn't be too hard to diagnose the fog lamp circuit:
With the switch set to the foglamp position you should have 12v on the red/yellow wire at terminal 30 and terminal 87a of the foglamp relay, on both sides of the fuse, and continuing right on down to the lamps themselves....all on the red/yellow wire.
If the high beams are on/flashed the relay will switchover, the circuit will open, and voltage won't be delivered to the fuse.

No, you are not missing a wire. The rheostat just has an extra, unused terminal.

Im getting 12v at the fusebox but nothing from any wires going to the relay. I checked the relay and it seems to be good.
Looking at a diagram i think there is another inline fuse somewhere like in the engine bay?

Hmmm.
I'm no help. Your diagram doesn't agree with mine and now I don't know which is right.
In my diagram voltage to the foglamp fuse comes *from* the fog lamp relay and there is no inline fuse.
