Default Engine picture required!

Hey guys,

as some of you know, I am fussy with the appearance of my engine. I have a problem with my cruise control unit regarding optics. The half containing the solenoids can't be plated as the fluids would rot it away. So I need to know: with the bonnet up, how much can be seen?

Can anyone do a couple of photos which the bonnet up and with the standard Harrison A6 compressor fitted, how much of the cruise unit is visible? Like that I can determin if I'll just paint it gold'ish or find another way around it.

Cheers

Damien

I'm pretty sure those parts are cadmium plated, giving the "bronze" color you refer to. You can buy kits that paint it the three colors to replicate cadmium, usually stuff like that I polish up and clear coat like rgp mentioned.

I avoid "cast" look paint as it typically looks clean but its incredibly obvious its painted, so silver is generally a no-go.If you painted these pieces semi-gloss black to clean them up I don't think anyone would knock ya for it.

That is exactly the reason I asked for some pics... Like that I can see how much is visible and from which angles. The front plate (for the cable) is visible. So that has been zinc plated to get it as yellow as possible, as cadmium plating is illegal for private use nowadays (here) as it is supposed to cause cancer.

As RGP posted some great pics, I can see there is very little to be seen. So it'll be painted a nice matte black, just like the AC compressor, the valve covers, the brackets and co. Like that it wouldn't be obvious. The expert will be able to tell it is wrong but then again, to see it someone would be so bent over, that they would have to search for it...

Thanks everyone for your contributions! OncE I get on my desktop computer again, I'll click the thank you buttons!
