Default Exhaust manifolds weld

Let the exhaust manifolds weld today. Done with metal active gas (MAG) welding with Sagox K15 gas.

How did you heat it during the process?

The repair with MAG welding can be made without preheating.

Interesting. Usually cast iron has to be preheated and welded with a high nickel content filler wire.

I have thirteen years a X300 4.0 with a AJ16 engine and never had a problem with the CPS.

proper weld prep goes a long ways in cast iron repairs. i not that familiar mag welding but iv mig as well as stick welded cast iron with using proper weld prep stop drilling the crack and v-ing the crack all the way out pre heat peeing the weld and slow cool down.

the tie ins don't look that great on those welds and without pre heat, id be slightly concerned cracks will re-appear next to the old repair. but if it does just gives you a chance to practice again.

Five years ago I welded the exhaust manifolds of my X300 with MIG welding the same way and those are still not cracked. With the X300 I drive sporty and on German motorways at speeds up to 200km/hour.
