Left rear quarter window won't go up
Update! Thanks to some great advice I got the $6 tool kit off Amazon and the panel came off with no damage. After some messing around I got the motor out and once apart discovered one brush was damaged along with a big wear mark on the magnets. I got it working but it was intermittent.
Solution was buy a new motor from Terry’s Jaguar parts. Not the cheapest solution but the upgraded motor was delivered in just a few days and other than having to transfer the original plug it was a perfect fit.
thanks to everyone who participated.
Up next a new high side low pressure switch on the A/C that is leaking. Same scenario, the replacement switch has a different plug but looking forward to having A/C again here in Florida.

My 75,000 mile 1994 XJS Convertible developed a intermittent at first, but now LR quarter window that won't go up. When the problem first started I could get it to go up by pulling on the window a few times before raising the top. Where to look? Is this a bad motor? It is stuck in the down position.
Either remove the vent trim panel in the B-post, or else fully remove the interior rear quarter panel. Some of the threads which discuss this topic will have pictures and the procedures. A quick search will give you the answers.
Good luck!

how do you access the motor? I’ve read a few threads that mention a 24” screwdriver. That leads me to believe it can be done without tearing apart the interior panels. How do you tap the housing?
thanks,
George
If the top is down, it can be done. I’m not sure I can explain how to locate it by looking down into the cavity, but you should be able to find it if you know what you’re looking for.
Maybe if you go to JDHT and understand how it’s assembled, you’ll be able to spot the location?
This is only a temporary fix. It will get stuck again.
