Oh hell this isn’t great!! Quick rundown... drive the jag to play golf today about 30 mins away. Ran like a champ. Got in the parking lot and smelled a little coolant. Parked the car and noticed some spots on the ground behind the car. Was curious/worried but in a hurry to play. Finish playing and notice a bunch of liquid under the front left wheel and going almost to the rear wheels. Touched the liquid and smelled it, It was greenish brown. Was not pungent and figured someone else must’ve had a problem 😐... started it up just fine and drove off and the temp seemed to rise like normal. Got about 15-20 into the drive and the gauge started creeping up on “H”. I figured it was because I was in a good bit of stop and go and then started worrying all at once. Got it on a faster no traffic road and the temp lowered a bit. Turned on the defroster to get the second fan going(if it wasn’t already) and didn’t do much. Pulled off and into a parking lot and shut it off. Instantly heard a loud hissing noise! Something has blown or cracked or split. Coolant dripping down but also on the bottom of the hood and kinda all over. It was steaming really good but still could not pinpoint where it was coming from. I’ll admit the noise and pressure was a bit how you say... not calming. Took a video and pics. From the one vid it almost looks like it’s coming from the radiator? That would be good thing... all I know is when stopped it was coming from the right front side.
You have blown, or have a leaking, hose. They# crosspipe ones look about 40 years old, are they?
Well... 31yrs old. Yeah the T like pipe/hose? That’s the only area that appears to have liquid around it. The steam looks like it’s coming out of the radiator though? Or maybe just swirling under from the crosspipe?
your hoses look like they should have been changed looooonnng ago. when you the one hose, you should change ALL the hoses since they look old, worn and tired
Also missing spoiler that directs air to radiator.
This small thing should not be overlooked.
From what I gather, it doesn't so much direct air to the rad as create a low-pressure area under the engine to help suck hot air out. But without it, you'd be lucky to avoid overheating issues even with good hoses.
Ah, if that photo just shows the underside after you temporarily removed the spoiler, that's okay.
What can happen is that it gets damaged or ripped off by a PO parking head-in and catching it on those concrete stoppers (for example) and it not being replaced because the PO isn't aware how important it is for airflow.
Well there it is. Rented a cooling system pressure tester. Replaced the hose with quite the split and retested. Got a little leak on top of the radiator in the whatya macallem tubes. Btw... pita to change the fat crosspipe hose!
