Oil pressure

Default Oil pressure

xjs 3.6 liter 1985.
oil pressure at 5 with ignitin on,engine off.
pressure 7 engine idle.
changed the pressure swith,no help.
what could be the problem ?

A bad connection on the oil pressure sender or instrument cluster plug.

If you disconnect the oil pressure sender the gauge will go full scale.

Had the engine been running recently? A good one won't leak down oil pressure right away.

engine is running regulary.
does not leak down oil presure.
the gauge reads 5 before engine runs. thenn climbes to 7 on idle..

Does the oil pressure warning light come on at any time?

This is an electrical gremlin. Nothing to do with the actual engine.

no light coming on.
oil pressure is fine.. it is the electrics that causes problems.

checking the instrument cluster is a p@&#+ in the b@#$.
the engineer who invented the system with the printed circuit under a layer of plastic,realy did NOT do us a favor.
