Default Replacement Parts

the secondary air pump is not working on my XJS and found a refurbished on on eBay.
The mechanic said he would install it which is good.
My question is, do i keep the broken one and see if someone is able to repair it and sell it again or just junk it.

Oh Boy.

I am cleaning up 3 sheds of Jaguar "stuff", I have kept for that rainy day since 1968.

I am 71 now, and this task is quite overwhelming, but has to be done.

THAT SAID

That "pile" of stuff has kept ALL my Jags on the road for as long as I remember. Rarely buy stuff, even now with the modern "stuff" I now run.

Refurbishing something in my spare time, has saved me, and others a shiiit load over the years. Failures here are usually Sunday Afternoon, no one is open here on Sunday.

Your call of course.

Not sure about your air pump specifically but some parts are hard to come by and have value even if they're broken. You can pass it along to another Jag owner who can (perhaps) fix it and keep his car on the road.

Some guys like to tinker and can discover way to repair things....and then share that info with others. This obviously benefits everyone.

Jaguar used electric air pump on some cars for a couple years. These might be worth keeping and repairing, as they're a bit rare.

Some other types of air pumps were made by the hundreds of thousands and a broken one isn't of much use or value to anyone

Cheers

The mechanic said he couldn’t get the part as it’s no longer available or made. I was able to find one on eBay to have the broken one replaced.

as I’m not a mechanic but can do some sewing, how do I get a pattern to make replacement seat covers other then take them off the seats I currently have. Or perhaps someone has an old set to loan me so that I can make the pattern and return the seat overs.

Maybe you can check with a specialist to see if you could buy a set of patterns instead of the covers?
