Default transmission error after coolant leakage

Hello! after two years not driving my AJ16 '95 XJS (yes I know...) I drove it yesterday, and everything was fine, still a treat, But then a coolant hose broke. the short small one behind the engine. I managed to get home, and replace the hose. but now I have a transmission and check engine error.
my OBD app says its P1775. I guess it has to do something with the fluid exiting the hose near the transmission. Any ideas? shortage of some kind? are the connectors behind the valve head connected to the transmission? I disconnected them to get to the hose, but are connected again now obviously.
So the transmission and check engine light are on, and I guess it is in third gear, no shifting anymore.

thank you very much.

Pim

The P1775 is telling you the TCM has flagged a DTC so you need to interrogate the TCM.

Thanks; unfortunately I dont have any equipment to do so.
I forgot to mention there is also a 'hydrolic pressure sensor 1 adaptation at limit' message in the app. No idea if and where such a sensor should be.

Are there any sensors or Plugs underneath the heater valve that could have been shorted by the coolant fluid? Thanks

There is an electrical connection (left side of trans) for the solenoids and speed sensors that may be contaminated, you might want to disconnect and clean it. Sometimes leak ATF there also.

hi thanks; I can't seem to find this connection; where should this be? Left side when in front of car or in the car? I did clean some contacts next to the broken hose but I think these are for measuring exhaust gasses...
thanx, pim

I cleaned these connections; but are connected to exhaust pipe

Where would trans electronic be?

The connections you cleaned are for the oxygen sensors.

I’m not sure what the other one you showed with one wire is, but most likely not important to this problem.

The transmission connector is visible by climbing under the car….

thanx Vee...!

do you know of a way to clear the codes? My app doesn't allow that; and my garagist suggested to take off the negative plug from the battery and connect it to the positive one, to clear codes. Unfortunately that didn't work. Codes still show up.

Thanx

Should be rear facing on left side of transmission case, above the pan rail. Black in color. Only accessible from under the car. Left is as seated in drivers seat.

Hi vee; thanks for your help again..! I downloaded a different OBD app that gave me some other codes; transmission shift solenoid an and b, and torque converter clutch electrical error codes.
in the post you linked to there are messages about the harness and tcm Where are those situated in the 95 xjs coupe?
And again; all this came after a coolant leakage in the back upper part of the engine. Really sounds like shorts doesn't it? But where o where... I will try to look under the car after Christmas, and check that connector.

thanx, pim

You should do a search for transmission valve body posts under my name. You might need a replacement valve body too. The shop I had the car at had a donor xj6. They couldn’t guarantee replacing the solenoids would solve the problem, or uncover other issues.

Look for a brass looking part on the drivers side of the firewall. That is a heater valve which is made from cheap pot metal. Could be the source of your coolant leak.

HI Vee; today i had a look underneath the car; disconnected the trans cable, cleaned it (it was greasy) but no succes...
the coolant leak was from the hose between cilinder head and that heater valve. i replaced it. i cant believe that the malfunction is a coincidence. it occured right after this leak.
are those solenoids in the trans somewhere underneath the hose that leaked ? or is there any electronics i can check that are inside the mid console in the car (that would be a coincidence then i understand, but easy to acces...) iread your posts about the replacement but didnt find any info that would explain my problem......

thanx, pim

This would be a complete coincidence. There isn’t any feasible way that one caused the other. Maybe had you removed the camcover, you may have hit the heater valve, making a small problem worse, but it was inevitable. Transmission could not have been affected…especially the valve body. That thing is sealed up and under pressure with tranny fluid, so no chance.

There is a plastic replacement part that has worked well for me. My replacement metal heater valve leaked as soon as I installed it, so test it before you lose more coolant!
