Rob , thats an interesting question , only way is to try it!
like i mentioned i run all 12 cylinders into ONE BIG single 5" outlet, it is a little loud but at hi revs it sounds fantastic, a sound video does NOT do justice!

I tried to order a professional grade mic attachment so a friend could film (with proper sound) as my car is straight piped with gutted cats, I did have to add high flow mufflers to block the lawnmower sound at 2000rpm. Over 3500 it revs like they did in the race cars.

Apparantly cell phone mic jacks require a slightly different fitting, now its too rainy to do any filming.

a few pages up in this thread is my car idle sound which growls nicely.

Exhaust sound is like a musical instrument small diameter will give you higher notes. Larger diameter has a lower more bass tone. Side pipes don’t work. All you hear is 6 cylinders per side.
back when noise was accepted on a race track I put 2 &1/2 in pipes off the stock iron manifolds and ran the under the differential with a heat blanket to prevent overheating the differential. Shortly after the differential I I tipped the pipes up about 15 degrees and cut channels in the floor of the trunk. Right after the kick up were the tapered megaphones.
loud and glorious sound. Lifting at around 6200 rpm the bark could be heard anyplace around the race track.

MG your ears only hear one side then the oppisite side , so the ear to brain cant hear both sides at the same time, confuses the brain!
all cylinders out one large outlet , BLENDS the sounds together, much better exciting and relaxing at the same moment, especially for long distance cruising!

I can understand that. What I was talking about is side pipes. Group 44 did it for cooling purposes. The air coolant velocity was more or less trapped by the side pipes as if they were sliding skirts.
Also by getting the pipes from underneath there was more room for air to go through and help cool the engine. If you could vision air pressure basically the bottom side of that car was an upside down wing. Crude but effective ground effects.

Did you ever get a chance to study their tube frame XJS? By conforming to those rules, there is an unbelievable amount of trickery right in plain sight that I doubt 1 person in a hundred noticed. Wasn’t Lanky Foushee a former Air Force mechanic? Didn’t they post racing both get very interested in flying?

i think you are right about Tullius and Lanky!

bought my oversize valves from LANKY when they were shutting down the shop, valves were leftover new stock, along with some springs and locks!
a rough pic of Grp44 car rear suspension has little left of Factory IRS, cage mounted solid, etc!
