Hi guys,

Was wondering if I can purchase a new style lights for an 1995 XJS. I am looking for a clear cover like the ones that comes with cars now so I can put in some HID lights. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi calvin,

Do you know if I can change the glass headlights on my 95 and put in a clear plastic lens like they have now on new cars? I want to put in HIDs but I want to know if I can change the glass lens. Thanks...

Are they glass? I thought all lenses after a certain date (late eighties) were required to be plastic?

Ok, I am super confused right now:

1-All US 1995 model year XJS's came with plastic sealed beam headlights. I think that only some UK and continental European spec XJS's came with glass sealed lights.

2-If for some reason you do have the Glass versions thanks to a previous owner, why would you want to downgrade to plastic and why would the glass ones prevent you from converting to a HID set up?

3-Or do you have a US only earlier quad set up that someone retrofitted and are trying to go back to the original sealed beamed?

The later plastic units are completely different from the glass. I've been through so many sets trying to swap my quads for euro. The bezel trims are different, bigger, than pre facelift euro lamps.
Some advice on the hid conversion.
Don't do it!
Hid bulbs are designed to be used with a convex focusing lense and these swaps on regular housings end up with a non focused blinding light. I installed in a 2004 xjs and I took them out after 2 days.
If you change the bulbs to the super Bright Sylvania bulbs you'll be amazed at the difference and the beams stay focused. I compared the output before I changed the second bulb and it was like a hid compared to a candle!
