Mmmm shiny subframe. Hoping to do similar shortly. The one I've found is apparently off a series 3 xj so here's hoping it's the same as the XJS!

What did you prime it with out of interest? I was going to go straight in with a wire brush cleanup & por15 (if I can reopen the tin)

Mine is from a Series II XJ6 so all the same...

I had it sandblasted and am applying the POR15 straight to the bare metal. If it was rusty, you'd want a rust convertor to make sure it sticky better.

No need to be jealous... No matter how careful you are, you'll get some drops on your skin. That took a week last time to go...

Now I've got to flood the subframe inner with POR15. Just to make sure it stays good (as little rattle can be heard due to some rusting). I don't want to do this again

Apart from brakes and springs, the front axle has been rebuilt... Yay! The metric XJ40 fulcrum shafts do the job just as well - and are really low priced!

Daim,

I have no any comment, but read (and see) your progress with amazement.

What you are doing is awesome, and will be a lead for me, and I guess others.

My sincere compliments, and keep it coming!

Default Replaced drive belts

Tedious but not impossible.
All 4 belts sourced from NAPA.
Took about 4 hours.
Must access alternator belt from below.

Yesterday, I drained the transmission fluid for the 5th time (to get as much of the old fluid out as possible, dropped the pan and changed the transmission filter. Has 73,000 miles and was a bit overdue (but I only bought it about a month ago).
Seeing what some of you guys do amazes me.

Went to fit the new FPR today and it won't fit, wrong sized connector.
Not at all chuffed on that one.
Refitted the old one and now running like a bag of spanners.
Even less chuffed on that one.
Swore at it and put it back in the garage.

After having a wonderful summer driving, I put the gal away for the long Canadian winter.Checked antifreeze /disconnected battery and filled car/trunk and motor with mothballs. I found that mothballs do discourage the little boogers from building nests.

Hi Chris

It only seems five minutes ago that we were getting our Cars out for the Summer, doesn't the time just seem to fly by.

Except of course in Winter that seems to go on forever.

Well done Al. As you've found out you really have to do a min of 5 refills if you're to get a decent change of fluid. This is because you can only drain / suck 2.5 litres out of a total of 9 litres. I've recently done four changes with some Dexron II that I had lying around. I now need to change the filter and then I'll do four more changes with Dexron III.

Paul

Seems I missed the last heatshield on one side. Doesn't matter, as I'll have the one I have mirror make to fit the other side. Depending on what they cost, might have both sides then done in stainless steel...

Anyone interested?
