Great looking XJS Padre! My own keeps getting put on the back burner. My Mustang sustained a ball joint failure, (long story). So it is in the garage in the middle of a lower arm replacement. Had decided to work on my Daily XJ6 first, but the Mustang went to the front in triage. Getting my garage cleared out has been an adventure in itself. But the best news is that my Wife is online with my plans. Enjoy the Holidays.
Well, was bored stiff today. So I took the throttle pedastal to pieces to dertermin what parts I'll be needing. Quite a simple little bugger. Nothing really complicated. Just fiddle work.
Now to clean it up, replace a few parts and have some more galvanised.
I pulled the V12 from my 89 and the worst I encountered was the exhaust manifold bolts around the steering rack the tightness in this area was ridiculous, but doable with good wobble sockets. It couldn't have been the fact that 99% of my experience is on American Iron. Nah, didn't have a thing to do with it. I have always loved Jaguars, but this is my first chance to own one.
I actually found it easier to undo the steering rack from the subframe and column. Then it can pop out easier...
Remove radiator, airfilter boxes and connecting bars between bulkhead and wings and it should come right out... Of course a few more hoses and wires have to be undone first
Started off 2017 with some minor long-put off cosmetic issues fixed to start the year off on a positive note. The rear "XJS" on my car had been worn right down to the bare black plastic, and didn't look good compared with the other badges. I had ordered and got a very expensive (ouch) replacement some months back, but never got around to putting it on. So I did that today.
The old one was quite black.

Glad I wasn't trying to debadge her. After half an hour of label remover application and plastic mini-spatula and thumbnail, this is where the up was given.
I learned today that the XJS was actually originally applied ever so slightly higher than the V12. And I also realized that the new XJS is a LOT shinier than the old V12, even allowing for the areas where the chrome has rubbed off. Might have to replace that at some stage too.
All done.
The JAGUAR isn't as badly worn, at least.
I also tackled the portable navi suction cup dish the PO had used. Not being in any rush to get a portable navi, it was just getting annoying. The top plastic was ripped off, and the adhesive peeled off reasonably easily, and at least it came off cleanly.
Finally have a clean dash!
Three days ago I fixed the cruise control and removed the fascia wood to get at the vent so I could remove the last cupholder prong that was stuck in there, and yesterday I ordered new spark plug leads, which will hopefully make her idle more smoothly at the lights, so with luck I'll have a higher ratio of days when I can drive her than I did in 2016....
Yep, they shipped me my new fan, thermos and hoses very quickly and easily. I've asked for a shipping quote, but forgot to add in the boot struts (boot tends not to stay open these days...). Being the holiday period, I don't expect an immediate answer, but there's no real rush.

For thirty quid I'd expect the badge to be couriered on a private jet, arriving on a golden pillow and delivered by a trio of Vestal virgins....
Bit the bullet and made an appointment with the mechanic... Poor car started losing power on the highway, and even killed on me a couple times. Hoping it's something simple like bad gas or fouled plugs and not some arcane thing that's going to eat my entire 'new motorcycle fund.'

I ordered a tiny little rubbery plasticy cap whichbsits in the crankncase of the V12. It covers the torque convertor screws. Something like $6 is what it would cost. So that is around €5.50 for the part. Shipping is €22... I don't know how it will be delivered, but I hope by a butler, as that price for shipping ist just stupid... But hexk, I needed it.
Have to considered ordering from SNG Barratt USA instead? Closer than Britain and therefore should be quicker and cheaper...
I'll get my boot struts from them - they're cheaper, actually. But they don't have the V12 badge. I do have a UK address (my brother, if he's willing...) that I could use to get DM to send the badge to, if that works out.
But yeah, I feel your pain. It's not so much that parts are expensive, but shipping costs the earth....
I just replaced all the belts on my '94 XJS 6.0L V12 Convertible. The dealer also talked me in to flushing/changing the Steering Fluid and the Coolant Fluid.
I was initially skeptical; however am now very happy. As I drove away from the dealer the car seemed so much tighter. The steering seems firmer, and everything much more responsive. I'm pretty sure these fluid and belt changes are not on the usual list of things to do given they are largely preventative. But I can assure you they do positively alter the driving experience.
