It looks like you installed them backwards, that's why it was easy. The square shoulder is supposed to be on the forward side of the plate to prevent it from sliding out. I did not use rubber on mine as it breaks down too fast and allows for alot of slop. I used the poly bushings and it took a significant amount of play out of the linkage. it does require a fair bit of effort though

Luckily,,, I happened to have a piece of yet to be applied CARPET handy that I could press against the crack at the top O the LH front window that I haven't "adjusted" yit, lol

I don’t know what caused the tire to come apart. All 4 tires seemed to be in very good shape though they were on the car when I bought it this fall so I don’t know how many miles they’ve seen.
I was commuting home with the top down which was a nice treat given that it is usually pretty cold around here in February. I heard a low frequency hum and figured I’d pull over about a mile ahead where there is a large shoulder with room to safely stop. After not much time the tire came apart and I could tell I was driving on the rim. I continued the remaining several hundred yards to get to a safe place before pulling over. Unfortunately the tread portion of the tire stayed together in a complete circle and moved inward of the rim. It got caught around the control arms and I dragged it along with me. At some point it severed the wire to the ABS speed sensor. I think I’ll be able to repair the wire- I’ll at least try that before I purchase a replacement. The tread also hung up on the brake hose. I found a small amount of fluid on the hose but didn’t see any actual leak and after cleaning it off it was still dry when I got home and put the car on my lift. Out of prudence I’ll replace the hose- it would be crazy not to. As I mentioned I ordered all new tires including the spare. It could have been far worse to lose a tire at 60mph so I’d say I was lucky in the end!
Tires have a used by date. On the tire (generally on the wall) they have a manufacturing date and an expiration date - usually 6 years. They will get old naturally, even if the kilometers are not put on them. So a tire that looks good, can actually be very old, and can result in the above
Thankfully you were not hurt, loosing your steer tire can result in all sorts of not nice things
Today I finished assembling the front hubs - new Timken bearings, stub axle, seal, Lemforder ball joints, nuts, washers, discs, brake pipes & refurbished calipers. Just have to torque it all up when on the car. Decided to ditch the dust shields. Very nearly at the point of refitting a fully assembled front subframe!

Ignorance rears its ugly head again! The project was to replace the water pump on the 90 xjs I had the belts off already. This left the fan and its hub, then onward. I found all the bolts and removed them making careful note of where each one belongs. This left me with "one broke off bolt" at the lower center up against the crank. I am certain that a lot of you know what happened next. After A Lot of gentle (really. I was careful.) prying and coaxing, the flat cover at the right cracked off. Then it was broke. I already have a replacement so my brain went to "Fine! Be that way. You wont win!" I checked the manual to make sure there was no mention of removing the crank pulley too. I began to pry more aggressively and the rest of the pump came out reluctantly. I ended up with what I could only at that point most of the water pump. The rest of the water pump. I managed to bend the screw too boot.
see was a Phillips screw and a chunk of potmetal stuck on the motor which came out with simple finger pressure. Later, after dinner and some reflective thought I went to the Jaguar parts site and what did I see? You all know, I can hear you saying it. The Screw was RIGHT! Gahhhhh. It looks like a fairly simple screw so Im off to the hardware store today. There should be a big sign on top of the motor that states all of the stupid "had to be that way." stuff of which I need to be aware. This sign would of course be among the first parts to be discarded......

I pulled my rear half shafts and am going to be dropping them off at a local British car repair shop to have the bearings replaced! I was tempted to do them myself, but I saw a shop had reshimmed the bearings before and I would be starting pretty much from scratch, also the last wheel bearing I did, without just replacing the whole hub assembly, was on my 80 Malibu. Slightly different from what I've seen. Looks like these could be much more fiddly

I suggest you get the UJs changed at the same time.
I love how easy the TH400 is to work on. I also love the availability of parts. Compared to the 4hp22 or 5hp24 it is like same on the beach. Parts are cheap, readily available and best of all: original parts are still available.
Just ordered some fittings (brass) for the tranny. €7 for 2 and €10 shipping from Rockauto... I was going to have old ones resurfaced but that would cost more per piece
Just few days ago. Replaced broken hose clips for ps return hose between cooler - pump, expecting dry hoses there. Did also routine clean/inspect maintenance for front brakes + slight retighten for front bearings. Bearings replaced some years ago acc to maint documents. (yes i know these old style tapered rolled need tiny gap, didn't tighten them too much)
Manufactured rubber "flap" for fuel filler lid lock, i didn't like open entry for water to get in the lock. It is inside of chrome cap on the lock, think some exterior flap is not fitting well to car style...
Me too. Ordered All 4 new fuel lines, valve cover gaskets, brake pads, rotors, associated hardware, brake hoses, a few misc. items and some special washers for the oil feed lines on the 3.8.
set of twin headlamps from SNG BARRATT and the tps upgrade, booked her in for full auto box rebuild to stop, parked up, auto fluid puddles. plus I purchased a high level 3rd brake light from Manners for £12 via eBay, don't waste your money, they are supplied with 2 self adhesive pads that stick it to the rear screen and if the temp is freezing or a heat wave, or you cough. will drop of at the first sign and look extremely like a bodge job from the back, so a pair of proper brackets from the USA have doubled the price,
