Default Wiper issue, how to proceed ?

Hello everybody,

I'm facing a wiper issue on the 1983 XJS for a long time, it started with rain on the wiper engine not covered anymore by the plastic protection. Thank you to the garage, my car was outside.
Now I've replaced the engine but this is still not running. What can I check ? Fuse box ?

Thank you.
Ya

Please say which of your vehicles has he problem, as they do not have the same wiper system or column stalks. Check as follows:
  • fuse, and test for current BOTH sides of the fuse, they often look entire but have failed at the connection internally.
  • If OK, then test the wiper stalk in ALL its settings: normal, high speed, flickwipe, intermittent. This is to eliminate (to a degree) a possible stalk-switch problem on an individual mode. If nothing:
  • remove the wiper unit an unplug it, from the black socket on the bulkhead, then turn on the wipers to normal speed and using a test light see if there is current to the socket (there are several connectors in the socket but one will be live, if not two). Switch off and test that this connector goes dead.
  • redo this test with someone holding the stalk on the flickwipe setting and check for current again.
Post again after this test. But in principle, if there is current to the socket, the problem is in the motor unit somewhere.

Thank you Greg, the 1983 is concerned.
I'll start the investigation today.
