XJS interior retouching
- Disconnect the battery
- Remove the aircon control knobs and undo the nuts behind them
- Remove the aircon control panel and the radio
- Remove the ski slope cover on top of the console
- Undo the fixings under the ski slope that are now visible
- Undo the fixings at the rear of the console down by each side of the rear of the console by the floor/carpet
- Undo the cheeks each side of the front of the console where the footwell air vents are
- unscrew the knob on the gearshift
- I think this is it, there may be odd screws as well, and the console can lift off the gearshift; but carefully undo the plugs to the console switches as you lift it up a bit.
The side panels I was referring to are at the front by your and the passenger's knees. The rear seat does not have to come out to remove the console.
Sorry, yes, I fully understood that.
In addition to the center console, I need to remove the rear side panels!
how does one go about removing the nuts behind the AC knobs? Is some sort of special keyed socket required?

In a coupe, at any rate, you have to remove the rear seats, then the furflex on the B pillar, pull back the leather to reveal the fixing screws, remove the seat belt anchorage on the B pillar, and then undo the fixing screws thus revealed.

There is a special tool, but if you have a socket the right diameter, you can sacrifice it by cutting it down to leave two points. It is also possible with a screwdriver blade carefully tapped at an angle with a light hammer.

I was able to stuff needle nose pliers in and straddle the post to unscrew the nuts. What a chore. Removing the AC panel also a chore. I hope I never have to do this again!

Center console is back together and installed finally! I forgot the armrest tho. Dammit.
also it seems I broke two of the retaining tabs on my cigarette lighter panel /-: it doesn’t want to stay in.
I just parted out a 91 last weekend. Even it had all the tabs broken on all console inserts.
perhaps I’ll 3D print some replacements and epoxy them on!
