Default XJS Rear Subframe Mount R&R Anyone?

Hello again everyone. Mine is a 95 XJS 4.0 'vert. Has anyone replaced the rear subframe mounts? Changed a rear tire today and noticed they're hanging by a thread! I guess this might explain a little squirreliness in the turns?

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks

The Vee Mounts (item 6) have de-laminated on every Jaguar I've had with IRS.

I'll be amazed if the ones on your '95 are still the originals.

Looking forward to more responses here as I'm about to attack the same problem.

Thanks for the diagram! Anything untoward about replacing? It looks pretty straightforward. Support from below, undo 8 bolts, lower and replace. Raise and redo all 8. Correct? Anything hidden in there?

Many thanx!

The easiest way to replace them is one at a time, this way you can align them easily.

Jack the car and put jack stands under the jacking points, leave the trolley jack under the diff and jack. Start on one side and remove the 8 long bolts that hold the mounts to the body on one side. Then remove one mount only and replace it leaving the bolts and nut loose on the cage, jack that side of the cage back into the car and re-install the 8 bolts then tighten the bolts and nut on the new mount, repeat for the other 3 mounts.

The first time I replaced them I removed all the mounts and it took me ages to get everything lined up so I could get all the bolts in.

Thanks Warren!
The tip I was hoping for

I know this is a old thread but its exactly what Im dealing with right now.
Does anyone know the difference between Vee block part numbers CBC-5737 and CAC-3067 , I have seen them listed as different with the CBC-5737 being for
convertible models but....I have also seen them both referenced as the same part with interchanging part numbers.
The issue is that the CAC-3067 is about half the price of CBC-5737 if not less so if its the same I want the less expensive version but if its different I would like to find out before I buy them.
I was told by my buddy that the only thing cheap on a jag is the owner.... I guess he's right.

This job is so easy, I would opt for the aftermarket parts. They were a fraction of the OEM cost.

I think URO makes them.

I'm sure you did a forum search first, so you saw my previous thread on this, but on the off chance that you did not:

Yeah I did read your post, I found it in my google search and of all the search results it was probably the closest to my question, but I am trying to figure out specifically... are part CBC5737 and CAC3067 the same part but with different part numbers ? I'm still not sure.
I was just hopeful someone on the forum might know.

They are not identical parts, the 5737 being for the convertible; but I suspect both will actually fit. It will probably be the rubber hardness that is different.
I would not buy anything but actual real Metalastic rubber parts (ie actual OEM-maker parts, even if they are not in a Jaguar box) for the XJS. My hard experience has been any other makes go home very fast indeed.
FYI As well as the two long bolts per mount, there is a small nut that has to be undone to release the locating bit from the cage itself before you can remove the mount.

I usually agree with using OEM rubber, especially since Metalastik really makes quality parts, but in this case, judging by the simplicity of the work, I would consider aftermarket.

Most of the rubber on the car are parts that would take too much trouble to replace. Once you change these parts out once, you will find it easy to do. A socket, a wrench and two jacks. I suspect that the savings on this part would be worthwhile.

That being said, I ponied up for OEM when I did this job. I didn't realize how simple it would be.

If you were to remove the axle from the car, Greg, and wanting to refit it, would you fit the mounts to the car and then bolt the axle to the mounts or the other way around?

If removing the rear cage and using the same mounts again, I always undo the long bolts (two each mount) that hold the mount and therefore the cage, to the chassis.
The first time I did it I undid the small locating nut and dropped the cage leaving the mounts in place. Never again, it is really difficult to get them back, whereas he long bolts are easy to reinstall as long as the mounts are not moved. If I was using new mounts, I would do then one at a time as Doug advised, even if I them removed the cage and the new mounts immediately afterwards, it is so much easier that way.
