Default XJS tire size

Does anybody use tires other than the 235/60's? Just wondering if there are any more common sizes that work for these rims... I searched the forum but didn't find any threads on this topic

215/65 also work on the standard rims I have these at the moment.

There are other sizes that fit but would require different rims

cheers

To get a better selection to choose from I used 225/60x15 on mine.

I use 215/70/R15's as that is what my manual dictates is the correct tire size. Just got brand new tires of that size last week and they work great.

Default Xjs v12 tyres

Hello: I'm trying to purchase wheels for my XJS V12 and it's really difficult. In Spain it's only possible to buy Pirelli P600 at foolish prices and long delay.
I have seen Citytyre Service Ltd. in internet but can't buy online.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
I'll try to call them by phone but first I'd like to know your experiences.
Thanks.

Would you say 60 or 65 series tyres give a harder ride than 70's ?.

My rims are the modern 5 spoke 16 inchers, as used on the facelift cars. I use 225/60/R16 tyres W rated. I have Toyos front and and Kumhos rear. Very good tyres indeed, very good in the wet, maybe a tad noisier than Pirellis on bad surfaces, but nothing really noticeable. Excellent cornering and traction.

In the end I got the Kuhmos from a French internet site, about 100 Euros each, delivered, and 15 to get the local guy to mount them. There are loads of tyre places in the UK who will ship tyres to you in Spain for about 17 UKP a tyre. If the local prices are as bad as in France, you will still save a lot.

Generally speaking a lower profile/lower aspect tire will ride harder, yes. But it's not carved in granite....too many variations in tire constructon.

By most meaures you'd have to go lower than "60" series before ride quality would suffer much anyway.

I have an 89 XJS convertible , and I just bought and istalled Nankang tires, size 225/60/15, rated at 96V. I went for a trip of some 300 miles up the California freeway and found them to be very serviceable. My choice for this tire size was made after reading Kirby Palm's disertation on tire sizes recommended for these cars in Europe. Hope this helps.

Can anyone share pictures of their XJS with the 225/60 15 tires. I have 11 year old Pirellis 215/70 15 on my 87 that I should probably replace ASAP. Just wondering how the slightly lower profile would look in the wheel wells. Thanks

Here's my '88 with 225/60x15s. Not the best pics for your purposes but perhaps better than nothing

Cheers

I'm seeing 235/60-15 on sale for $268 each. Does that sound about right?

Not if I can help it

Those pics are years old. I was using a superb BF Goodrich tire....I think it was called a "Touring TA" or something like that. Terrific traction wet or dry, very quiet, "V" speed rating.

But.... BFG discontinued that particular tire several years ago.

Yeah, that seems about right. I'm presuming that's the P600 model, yes?

What's really frustrating is to spend that much on a tire that has a notoriously low tread life.....which isn't an unusual situation with high performance tires.

But if you want that size and that speed rating you don't have any choice.

I think I'm using the same tire as you! Tread not low but driving car a lot this summer so was just looking forward to next set.

And yes price I quoted was for P600.

Thanks for help. Wonder if I can find pairs of the BFG floating around.

Yeah, that's not the one.

BFG (like all others) offers a wide variety of tires with vastly different specs....but they often use the same or similar model names. Touring TA, Super Touring TA, Advantage Touring TA, Super Duper Ecstasy Premium Euro Touring TA, blah blah blah.

Over the years there have been several times when I really liked a particular tire (BFG or otherwise) but when I went to buy another set I found out they were discontinued!

As you probably know BFG makes a 235/60x15 tire in the standard "BF Goodrich TA" series but is not a high-spec tire. It's not a junky tire or a bad tire. It's....just a tire.

Cheers
