2007 XK - any problems to be aware of
Hi All,This is my first time on this forum and I have to admit to being a prospective XK owner. Before taking the plunge I thought I would enquire of those that ar likely to give an honest answer whether there are any maintenance, reliability etc issues with a 2007 XK, no extra modifications, 50000km.
In the Australian market what are the likely servicing costs driving 10000km a year?
Thanks for your thoughts
Alastair

Hi,
For this model, asking the same question in the XK/XKR thread might get you a better response.
For servicing all I can say is join a local club and find the best independent specialist in range.
I'm new to Jag ownership in Aus, but had 5 XJS variants in the UK, living in different areas - using the right garage will save a fortune, and gets the right fix first time!
Take your time buying, get a specialist to check it out if possible - buying one slightly rough one cheaper will not save you money! Another one *will* come along..
Have fun - it's a fantastic car.
Cheers
Rob

Greetings and a very warm welcome Alastair; good to have your company.
I endorse that good advice. Certainly, the model specific XK8/XKR section will draw upon a worldwide pool of experience and advice. May I suggest you use the Search tool to read from the vast pool of topic threads and posts. This initial homework will give you added confidence in focusing your questions. You will learn that your choice of MY07 will avoid the pitfalls of the early 4.0L engines ... particularly in respect to upper timing chain guides and tensioners. Also, do some research on "bore wash".
At the same time and despite the fact that the whole world is now your marketplace, keeping in touch with "the locals" will add greatly to your enjoyment ... and ours!
Best wishes,
Ken

The only one of real concern is the AC condenser leaking into the passenger foot well. This is most likely to happen and cost up to 1K to fix correctly. Happened to me last summer and I have about 30K on my car. Transmission pan had small crack (plastic) and started to leak. That one cost me around $500. A couple of control modules went at $30...
Other than that, car is as reliable as Toyota.

The leaking AC is a common problem, and I recommend you see if it has already been fixed. There are "do it yourself" fixes posted her, but the correct way is to pull the dash....
Other than that, the car has very few flaws, and is remarkably reliable. Smaller points show up, mostly from cars operated in hotter climates, such as the leather dash shrinking and pulling away from the windshield.
Keep in mind that the infotainment system is sub standard for a KIA, yet alone a car of this caliber, and due to the integrated vehicle management, there are no paths to upgrade it...
Main rule is "What you buy is what you will live with", which considering the rest of the car is pretty darn sweet.
