Default 2007 XK, procedure to properly replace right rear brake lamp without breaking plastic

Recently purchased 20017 XK coupe. Getting message RR brake lamp is out. Looked at owners manual but didn't find the information very specific. Looked inside the opening of the back of the car over RR tail lamp. Exactly what needs to be removed to replace lamps? Do you pull the entire tail lamp assembly away from the back of the vehicle or is there some sort of removable inner socket assembly like on a Land Rover?

remove 2 or 3 nuts from the inside ( can't remember offhand ) and then pull entire brake lamp housing straight out from the outside Be careful bc it will likely chip a small price of the red plastic tip ... Ask me how I know

Note the search box at the upper right corner of this page. Then type into it removal of rr brake light for brake bulb replacement" or some other description of what you are looking for. You will probably find your answer. by the way what MY is your XK? 2001, 2010 , or 2007?

Says '07 in the title. The whole housing needs pulled and it's a mother to get the snap clips the release. As said above, a couple nuts and then the one way clips need popped apart. I certainly felt like the housing was going to break before they popped. I rapped on the housing from inside the quarter panel as there's no where to pop it out on the outside without risking breaking it.

Pro tip is to replace all the bulbs at once because you'll not want to take it apart more than once.

This MAY help, it's a bit ubiquitous...

Yep, the two grey 'dicks' that stick into the panel are where the snap clips are located. Back one wasn't terrible but the side one was deflecting the plastic lens before it left loose. If I remember right I pushed on the threaded stud to pop it out and it was a huge amount of effort to get it to let go.

The picture posted by Cee Jay is of the newer LED unit on the 2010+ cars, and has 3 threaded posts with nuts. The 2007, has the posts in the same location, except the one on the side (towards the front of the car) is not threaded, but has a knob on the end that pops into a plastic holder.
After removing the 2 nuts, I got that other post out by squeezing the end of the plastic holder with a pliers, to sort of 'squirt' it out.

On the inside of the boot, (near where the delicate corner of the tail light) is a post that you need to push out (this will pop out that section so you don't break the tip of the lens). Use a screwdriver with a socket at the end that is smaller so you can 'push' it out.
