Default 2008 XK - help upgrading Navigation/iPhone system

I need advice. I purchased a 2008 Jaguar XK convertible.

it has factory navigation that cannot be updated after 2014. It has Bluetooth for my iPhone to use as a telephone and has steering wheel controls for this. For music it has AM/FM and a CD player with steering wheel controls for it. It cannot play music from my iPhone.

I would like to maintain the steering wheel controls.
I would like GPS navigation.
I would like the option of a backup camera.
I would like my iPhone to connect with Bluetooth, providing telephone and using the iPhone as a music source.
if I can keep the CD player that’s great, but if I need to replace it, that’s okay too.

I think that’s it. I am out of my realm trying to sort through how to accomplish this. Also, I have no idea what brand of what to purchase.

Thanks for the help.
Craig

Alright, lads (and lassies). The device arrived just a few moments ago, so pre-installation effort here's what I'm looking at:

The packaging (which was excellent, BTW):

First layer (screen frame & wiring components):

Installer's note (that'd be me): This is a "walnut burl" and I have the "honey burl". I've ordered a wrap from RVinyl in the aforementioned "honey burl" and I'll wrap the trim piece before attempting the installation process. It's "in transit", but due for delivery tomorrow.)

Back side of the screen frame (only one connection):

Second layer, consisting of a backup camera (included at no cost), back side of the screen, and a wiring loom (I presume for the backup camera):

Unwrapped screen (from the front):

Hi Craig

What you have now can do most of that. If you do not have the optional ACM audio connectivity module, you can search for online or ask your nearest main dealer as they will have to update the software on your car in order to activate it anyway.

There are some other options such as those offered by forum moderator Cambo - Apple CarPlay and bluetooth music, but a special version of Jaguar SDD is required to enable and some disassembly and wiring.

I have the most current nav disk, which is from Volvo, not Jaguar. See my post #19 and the links therein:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2007-a-187950/
When I really need to know how to get to my destination and the traffic, I use the Waze app on my Smartphone.

The Audio Connectivity Module adds wired iPod connectivity to the music on your Apple device but does not provide wireless Bluetooth music connectivity. My 2009 XKR came from the factory with iPod connectivity, and I use my ancient iPod Nano as a dedicated music player. Here's my 2011 thread detailing how I did it, and it still works great today.

I prefer the music coming from my exhaust!

There are several ways to add Bluetooth music, including the Cambo/Jag Wrangler adapter, the Bovee 1000 adapter, and the similar Tune-2-Air adapter. See:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-music-201442/

See Post #3 for my DIY wireless backup camera solution.

I don't understand your question. The nav in your 2008 XK uses GPS.

You're in Idaho, and if a location east of the Mississippi shows up on your touchscreen that means you have the wrong disk installed in the trunk.

North American market X150 models used two nav disks, one with maps for the East and the other with maps for the West. If you still have the original East disk in the reader, it's time to update to the newest maps. See my Post #5, above. The newest maps are from Volvo, and include both East and West on a single disk.

I think you think the maps should come from the GPS satellites instead of the DVDs? Doesn't work that way.

Gotta be honest - I'm kind of leaning this way right now. My bluetooth phone connectivity is getting pretty sketch, and I think having some fresh tech in the vehicle would be a welcome thing. Mechanically, my ride is fine as I've kept up with the aging suspension part replacement, etc. , but it's always the electronics that seem to create pressure to exit vehicle ownership status and let's face it - mine are 12 years old.

If I go this route and share my "story", I just hope I'm treated better than Luke Martin and PrivilegedJaguar were given my site history. Gotta run it by the fun suppressor first, given the size of the spend. If she approves, I'll place an order and share my experience.

Both of those guys posted ONLY about this infotainment option from Jump. Right off the bat they acted sketchy, and you notice neither are on here now. This has happened before with products NAVCRUEL sells, a new member joins and posts numerous things about how GREAT stuff is, then they vanish. A couple have been banished also, thanks to an observant moderator or admin.
You're good, dude. If you DO go for this option, I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. I do agree that the interior of our cars is quite a bit outdated on the technology front.

Kurt,

If you buy it, do so with the knowledge that if it doesn't work to your satisfaction, you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle. The seller is in China, and once he has your money it is difficult, if not impossible, to get it back.

I agree with what Cee Jay said about "Luke Martin" and "PrivilegedJaguar". Their posts are suspicious, and scammers are professionals at separating people from their wallets.

This is a perfect example of "Buyer Beware!" Know that you can lose all your money and wind up with an expensive doorstop, and if that's OK with you, then go for it! It's your money and your choice.

Just don't tell your wife!

Stuart

Since the other thread was closed, I never had a chance to lose this question but wouldn’t a moderator have the ability to check IPs and verify the legitimacy of a member’s profile particularly their stated location?

VPN? At any rate, if Kurt gets one, I'm looking forward to his feedback.

Cambo, one of the moderators has developed an android/apple car play system for 2007-2009 XKs. If you type in either Android auto system in the search box in the upper right corner of this thread and do a search you should be able to find the thread. The AUX input will need to be activated on your XK and that can be done by a Jaguar dealer using the SDD (I think that is the correct nomenclature) to do so. Get in touch with Cambo and he will be able to walk you through it and provide you with the necessary gear. Good luck

The only bad side of the add-on stuff with the stock screen is the miserable resolution of the stock screen. Even a high-end backup camera looks like Chinese junk on the TSD.

True but it still may shed some light on matching profile location. It may or may it confirm suspicions. And if using a VPN that too could be suspicious.

That's the crux of the risk/reward paradox here, isn't it? The big challenge for domestic US buyers is that this kind of entrepreneurial product development for what is admittedly a small, niche market simply doesn't exist.

And for the record, I absolutely LOVE what Cambo pieced together, but as noted ITT it relies on the same head unit which is really dated and starting to show signs that it is on the path to failure. I can hang onto it and deal with it when it happens (because it always happens when it's convenient, amIright?) or take a shot and hope it works. Worse case scenario: I have to re-install my OEM components and I'm out some $$$.

And as much as I HATE tossing money away, I'm old enough to remember a lifetime of stupid choices with money. Fortunately for our family, the good choices have far outweighed the bad, and this essentially amounts to a rounding error.

And even though Mrs. LHR is a blonde, she's gonna notice the change in the dashboard configuration, so notifying her in advance remains a prudent path forward in the interest of marital harmony and asset preservation.

Ready!
Fire!
Aim!

IMHO, using a VPN in itself does not amount to suspicious behavior. Lots of people use a VPN to avoid tracking of their internet activity. I've used a VPN on my phone for years, for just that reason.

If a poster is using a Tor browser or an Onion server, then I would begin to suspect. These are classic tools of the dark net.
