I travel for 4-6 weeks every so often. I just disconnect the neg terminal. Battery stays nice and full when I get back. Takes a minute to reset the windows and the clock, and I'm done.

For those who use the auto disconnect, how does it prevent a random battery drop from stalling the car in use?

Alternator power is above 12.2 volts by quite a bit. The alternator also runs all the systems, not the battery.
I suppose that if the alternator failed and the battery did dip significantly during a drive that yes, the car would die. It would soon enough anyway. BUT, if it did die at the 12.2 volts (or whatever), a person could bypass the disconnector and limp some distance for assistance. But that way they would definitely be aware of the problem instead of continuing to drive into nowhere with a failing battery and no alternator.
