It is screwed into the backside of the integrated control panel (The face plate you see with the buttons). You can leave the information and entertainment model screwed in. That's the little black box sitting atop the CD stacker 6W83-14c512-AA. Just disconnect those cables as well. The CD player is also known as the integrated audio module.
The dull steel or aluminum bracket in your pic needs to come off to access the screws for the stacker. You see the 4 torx screws mounted to the touch screen display - remove those. I don't recall if there are any further down (I think there are two)as your pic cuts off but you get the idea.
Once you remove the bracket you will see two screws mounting the stacker to the integrated control panel.
Regarding your other question, I assume you have premium audio, so the wires coming out of the CD stacker go to the antenna and MOST optical.
Standard audio vehicles just lead from the stacker directly to the speakers. Unplugging the harness leads results in no speakers.
Long story short, no way to to take the CD player out of the loop as it's an integrated audio module and does more than just play CD's. (MOST runs through it).
The good news is they are available and cheap on eBay and they are an easy swap. Just match part # to part # as you want one that matches Premium or Standard Audio.

OK, maybe sort of related and maybe not... I just saw/remembered that there are Three FAKRA connections on the back of the TSD, one of which I used for my Rear Camera...
... SO, what are the other two used for, and can an Android-to-Video unit be used to put an Android output INTO the TSD using either one of those connections???

Starting the last time I disconnected the battery, my CD changer starts clicking every time I get into the car. in CD mode, the stereo won't read the disk I have in and after roughly 30 seconds I see a 'disk error' message on screen.
Is there any DIY reset procedure for the CD changer, or must it be replaced?

This has happened before, I don't know what thread it was in though. Dude had to replace the Disk unit itself, then everything was fine.

If you had SDD you would be able to read the fault code but it probably won't appear on the touch screen. You could also use a cheaper unit like iCarsoft or Foxwell. Both make models for Jaguar. They will read body codes but only give you the first 5 digits of a fault code, not all 7. Usually enough to get you started though. Having said that, I doubt a code would show with the problem you're having but who knows?
The only reset you can do is a hard reset - remove both Negative and then Positive battery cables. This basically grounds the all the capacitors in the car. Hold the cables together for 5/ 10 minutes then connect positive cable back on the battery, then the negative. Worth a shot and free...

I've found a 'better than expected' solution to my woes. I didn't really listen to CD's so I've kept the broken dash mounted CD unit in place , and added a 'Jaguar AUX input via Wired FM Modulator Veba FAKRA iPod iPhone MP3 car adapter' from ebay user 'Incarconnections'. The whole thing came as a kit with adapters for the aerial input. You can switch the whole thing on and off - and other than the 3.5mm jack, there are no wires on show anywhere.
A little bit of farting around fiddling and I've now got my iphone connected to the car. The signal is wired, so crystal clear like a CD, and all for less than £50 !
