Welcome to the forum Sherard Big Daddy,
I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. US based members here with the same model will be able to help.
Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Actually, you moved it to the XK/XKR forum, which was correct.
Have a look in this thread ==> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...ntials-134733/
Your XKR has a 3.31:1 ratio diff which was also used in the S-Type, X350 XJ, early XF's and even the Lincoln LS & Thunderbird.
Hopefully that might help you in finding a second hand unit. In that thread I mention which engines of which models got which ratio's.
If you have a capable workshop nearby then I would also suggest taking the diff and driveshafts from a 1999-2002 S-Type (3.31:1), fitting a Ford 8.8" LSD to that diff, and having your workshop sort out the driveshaft lengths.
Will be much cheaper in the end than the $7000 or whatever Jaguar insists for the upgrade kit to the GKN differential, which is still an open-center.
Good luck with it.
At one time, I posted notice of a bulletin dealing with
excess sand in the differential. The diffs were to be
replaced. But, there was an expiry date.
Even so, a case might be made that if the bulletin
existed, and the damage is a result of the same
condition that it should be covered.

If you can get it out yourself you'll save a ton of money. I'm in Atlanta if you'd like to PM me.
