I've finally gotten around to replacing the driver's door trim panel, side mirror, tweeter and broken tweeter trim in my car. I've been ten hours away from being finished with this project for 5 years now, and this was the last few hours!

There is a part of of the old panel where the door handle mounts, but the new panel is missing this part. It looks like this piece is plastic welded onto the main door card, and I can't remove it without breaking what look like heat-shaped plastic rivet heads. IT clearly would fit into the new panel, but I have no clue how to go about doing this.

The first picture shows the part of the old door below the comparable area in the new door. The second picture is a close up of the two parts. ANy idea how to solve this?

It appears that you will need to drill out the old plastic rivets to remove the panel. You can then either melt the new pillars into place over the panel using a hot screwdriver or similar or glue the panel in place with a suitable plastic glue. It's not a job I have ever done.

Flip the pieces over and post pics. What's the Jag part number?

 

In the second picture, the second line (beginning with "6W83") appears to be different on the two pieces. Are you sure you have the right part?

 

As usual with Jag they sell bits with other bits not included - checking with the EPC the part (C2P11913LEG) is listed under door handles and locks and not with the door trim. This is the part:

Richard S was right. The right way to do it is to cut off the plastic rivet “heads” holding the part to the old piece. When you put it on the new door card, the “rivets” stand pretty proud of the piece being attached, so there must me some tool to melt the ends of those posts. I ended up cutting the posts flush then amusing 1/2 inch trim screws (the ones with the loose washer on top). Worked like a charm.

The part number is different inthink because it’s from a different year. The guys at Harper Jaguar in Knoxville triple checked for me on the phone. Can’t say enough good things about them.
