Default Driver's Door Not Locking

We discovered an issue with the central locking system at 3am this morning when someone tried to break into our 07 XK and set off the alarm. When we went out the driver's door was open. Fortunately nothing was disturbed or taken.

We called Jaguar of Tampa this morning and got some advice about what to check. The doors appear to lock when we either push the door button or the fob locking button. The interior handles move in when the locks are activated.

However, pulling on the driver's door handle opens the door and sets off the alarm. We tried calling back to the dealer but didn't hear back from the service advisor.

And on a side note, our video camera that survived Hurricane Ian was not functioning, so we had no image of the culprit(s) to share with the Sheriff's deputies.

I searched through several threads that described similar central locking issues but not one specific to our issue.

Beginning on page 2673 of the workshop manual is a clear description of the locking systems. In many forums there is rumor and innuendo that is just not relevant.
If you had a code reader that would expose the electrical fault.
In lieu of the codes, its a game of hunt and peck. As many of us have made clear in so many forums, start with the battery check.

Incidentally, I blame all mothers… if my mother caught me touching something that wasn’t mine…YEOUCH!!!

Hmmm...page 2673 of the service manual I have deals with the parking sensor module. I did read through the Active Anti Theft section but didn't find anything related to our issue.

I have the Fixd code reader and will check to see if there's any codes. I'll also check the battery, but it should be OK. My wife uses the car as her daily driver and we have not had any other electrical issues in the year we've owned it.

But Occam's Razor

@Hockey_Steve I have posted about this as I have the same issue in my 07 but maybe I worded the thread title poorly and that's why you can't find it, however no need to go looking for it. >>> On my car, No DTC codes are thrown. All appears normal when locking and unlocking the car, yet you can just walk right up and open the car door. Mine is drivers side. I've tested everything that I can except the micro switches in the door handle and I've concluded through process of elimination that it's the switches and although I have the parts, I prolly will not bother. I'm not diagnosing your car for you but I've done the drill down on mine and it's all that's left. See this sticky on removing and replacing the door handle to access the switches:

Its not the microswitches, I currently replaced the locking mechanism in my 07. Theyre made of plastic so they wear. You can buy a new one or buy one from ebay like I did. Not easy to install if you have no mechanical skills. But its pretty straight forward. You will need prying tools to remove the door card and a torx screw set for the aluminum plate and the latch itself.
i paid $60 for a used one. It was easy for me, and you dont need anything to reprogram or perform any further testing. The latches break, and Im not sure if its due to passive entry unlocking the door the instant you pull on the handle or if its just because theyre plastic. I unlock the car using my fob to prevent the probable cause of passive entry being a bit too hard on the latch, due to the timing of pulling the door handle while simultaneously unlatching. Best to unlatch via fob and then open the door.
here’s a pucture of the one I bought last month

Thanks Brew

I have the tools needed but the service manual says the window regulator (and the window) have to be removed first. Not something I want to mess with.

+1 on that. It's simpler than it sounds. When removing the door cards be sure you pull the top of the card inward towards the car centerline. EVERY other car I've owned you finish by pulling the door card up. That left the clips on the frame and me head scratching for some time as I tried refitting it. Don't be me!

Thanks. The Procedure is the same either way. You'll only find the part in a breaker yard and R&R the whole mechanism. I bought similar and have it in my shop. Still don't plan on swapping out unless I get a wild hair:-)

I had the repair done at Thoroughbred Motors in Sarasota and it turned out to be a smart move.

They found the latch that I got from Ebay was missing a small part but they had one in a donor car.

Total for the door repair and replacing thermostat, thermostat housing and two cooling hoses with 6 1/2 hours labor was $1K.
