Default ESP question

Question, on my 2 previous cars, a 997 and 987, the ESP system (PSM) had a great feature... when you swithed it off, it as only off until you once again pressed the brakes, and then off again as soon as you released the brake pedal. so in theory it would step in and help you if you felt the need to break, actually activated by the ABS.., it knew you were in trouble.. genius..I think.. anyway my M3 E46 had no such system, nor any other car that I have had...

So question, when ESP is disengaged on a Xkr 2008, it is completely off all the time, or it is similar to the Porsche system?

D S C when turned off stays off. Try using TracDSC instead of turning it off. The XK owners manuals are online under a Sticky thread.

ESP is a Mercedes term I belive.

Is DSC OFF a permanent setting?

On previous models, it is ON by default and can be switched OFF but will reset to the default ON next time the engine is started.

The XK Driver's Handbook doesn't make this clear (see section boxed in red on the first page below):

I think the car resets to dsc on when you restart the car.

On my 2007 XK when you shut the car off it defaults back to Dsc on.

For MY11 (and onwards, I believe):

Switching the engine off and then on again, will always revert DSC status to DSC ON, regardless of which mode is selected.

You are all correct. I think that Hailers was just responding in the context of the question; when the DCS is switched off, it doesn't renable whilst braking.

Thx for all the replies...
Will be on the skid pad/ ice & snow course in 2 weeks.. Will be fun to see just how much play there is with the TracDSC engaged, as well as to experience how the car behaves on a slippery surface, with and without the DSC..

Ps.. Still haven taken posession of the car ... Has not cleared the import authority and MOT yet... Wait is driving me crazy...
