Default Fried Kitty Kat

So today on vacation, 400 miles from home and 100 from a dealer, my kat has a typical jaguar fit. While driving today, smoke comes out from under the dash and and that nice plastic burning fire smell fills up the car. Luckily nothing happens to us but now none of the climate controls work, no fan nothing. It will at least run and the top goes down. But it's mighty hot here at the beach. Any ideas where to start? All fuses look good.

Not heard of this problem before, although our cars are known for leakig water from the AC onto the passenger floorboards. (There isa TSB for that). Wonder if water hit the ATC (Automatic Temperature Control) module located beside the blower motor under the passenger side dash?

Smoke did come from passenger side footwell. So you may be onto something. I'm just trying to get an idea where to start. Thanks for the info.

Ok so I need a little help here because I don't know how this ATC works. I bench tested the motor and it runs. When I plug up the motor, both wires are hot. There is one wire hot going to th blower module but even with it unplugged, both wires are hot. I unplugged the ATC module and that kills everything. And makes my marker lights on. Plug it back up, blower relay clicks and both wires are hot. I am trying to get the ATC control module out but it's a pita to get to the upper screws. It did burn up something because there's a layer of soot on the dash. Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: Clever sent me some information that I did not have and I was able to trace the wiring config for the blower motor controls. I traced it down to the blower motor control module. This is basically a heat sink/resistor for blower motor speed. I ordered one and got it in a few days. This seemed a bit odd and makes me think it's a common problem though I haven't heard of it. So this is what I think happened. I believe that my HVAC ductwork became full of water due to the faulty stupid a/c drain. The level of water reached the module, since its in the ductwork at the bottom, and shorted it out. Replaced part and all is good now. Thanks to Clever for the help.

Default Are you keeping your car?

Hi..I am new here. I have a 2010XK and didn't get the extended warranty. I am now looking to buy it and can through USAA. It is $7,000 for a new car warranty policy for 50,000 or 4 years. My question is how long can I keep my car. I love it I drive it as my main car and I want to keep it forever. I understand that after 6 years and 100,000 I can not longer buy a warranty policy. How long do these cars last and how many miles can I expect to enjoy my baby before I really need to let her go?

Put 6K on a pre paid Amex. Use it for break repairs only and I guarantee you'll money in the account in 4 years or 50,000 miles. You should be able to keep your car 20+ years with regular service.

I see others are having the same problem that I did with mine. It's an easy fix and I think you can even do it without taking the glovebox out if you want to. If those of you can't figure it out, just email me and I'll gladly walk you through it.
