Default Had a first poking around.

After a glass of wine (or two) last night, I finally had a look around under the hood.
Nothing crazy. Took the covers off, checked all the fluid levels, opened the fuse box, crawled underneath and looked at the radiators for corrosion or leaves.
Just a dead bee.
Oil looked at the low end of the Xs, but my eyes weren’t working so well. Will have them check during my state inspection and add a quart if needed. (5W30)

What was odd to me was two random 15a fuses just laying in the fuse box.
Extras?

[Oil looked at the low end of the Xs, but my eyes weren’t working so well. Will have them check during my state inspection and add a quart if needed. (5W30)] The electronic oil level display has not been accurate for me. After my last oil change, and the shop adding just 7 quarts, (Takes 7.65 quarts), my gauge read full. To play it safe, I added 1/2 quart. The accurate way to know how much oil the car needs is to measure how much comes out. I miss those oil dip sticks!

Default 3Qts low?

As y’all know, picked up the car Saturday.
Drive 6hrs. Then another 4-5hrs on Sunday.
Short in town drives after that.

Seller says oil was full and of course the PPI inspector would have also looked.

No obvious leaks. Never a burning smell or dark exhaust. No spots on the floor of the garage.

A bit perplexed.

.
Some people consider anywhere in the cross-hatches as "full". They don't add the extra 1/2-3/4 quart to get to the top of the range. Oil change businesses are notorious for short fill to minimum, so if the previous owner had done one of the quick lube places (or even a dealer) that might be the answer.

I'd replace the fluids and filters to levels that you know, then monitor for loss. That way you have hard data.

Prolly some spare fuses .. just in case

While you're under the hood check, if you haven't already:
  • Cabin Air filter and underneath (my filter was pretty gross, and a few leaves in the space below the filter)
  • Broken or missing push clips for the various covers ( I had two missing and 2 or 3 more that were past there best)

Amazon link for clips
Amazon Amazon

Ha! I did check the cabin filter. Not new but not filthy.
Ill look underneath when I get some jack stands.

Lucky me, no missing cover clips. But two of them don’t tighten down well, just spin. May use that link and order a bunch just to have them.
Doing the same with fuses, clips and other random things that go missing.

No need for stands.... what I meant was when you remove the Cabin Air Filter don't forget to take a flash light and take a look down the void for the filter.
I vacuumed out a few leaves and smaller bits of crud.....
