I'd think it'd sound exactly like a leaky exhaust system, with the FUT-FUT-FUT sound.
Now, maybe by hooking up something like glass packs or something past the cut-out it would sound OK, and add another exit line for exhaust, like a quad instead of duals (no, quad tailpipes don't count).
I have something like this when I street drive my P/S Mustang II, I have removable caps on the straight exhaust which block the quick exit and sends it out the back through a couple small mufflers.
The only thing that concerns me here is the exhaust coming back into the cabin. If you split the quad tips so that the inside are routed from the cut outs and the outside is the full exhaust then you would dump the fumes out the rear and not under the car. My 2 cents. By the way my PAE is loud enough for me and the LEO's.
I changed the mid section on my 5.0 XKR recently. Couldn't resist the temptation to start the car and rev it a little while there was nothing attached after the catalysts - well the neighbours were all out so why not?
It was *brutal* loud. No way I could drive around that loud all the time, and that was just idling and a little revving in P so no actual load on the engine - can only imagine what it would have sounded like under real load at WOT.
I too did it and there wasn't much tone difference from cat less down pipes to no muffler. It just got a little quieter the further from the engine. It was not a good sound...
Had a local guy who welded them on, they came a little to far down then what I wanted cause I told the welder there was not much room above. After cutting the holes I should have put the exhaust back on and rechecked before welding. A little out of line they are but nobody see's that more then me and the MOT guy!:-D
Started the car with valves closed and opened them when idle and the tone became alot lower, sounded really nice. Revved it a little and it is loud.:-D
Will do some pipework later on when I've tested it a little more so the exhaust fumes don't get into the car.
Will do a video when the weather gets better. Should it be to loud and or bad tone I will just put a cover plate on and no harm done!:-)
BTW, cause of the heat when welding the pipes moved sideways, about half an inch!

Yeah, the ratchet strap method will work OK. You'll need to go a little overcenter so they are the correct width once they relax. Hopefully they only need tweaked together and aren't twisted.
I noticed in the video my rear lights flicker but checked when I got home and they were fine so hope it's my camera as I've seen before that leds can flicker on cameras

I'm curious if anyone is running an electric exhaust cutout. I'm trying to keep my car a little more subdued in the noise dept. I ordered a 3" stainless one and it was pretty big and I didn't see where it would fit. If you have one can you post pics and or tell me a brand that might fit.
