Cambo - Do you know if this Volvo DVD will work in a 2006 Super 8 Portfollio?

Cambo, do you know of a set of discs or another manufacturer or the Nav DVD player that's a counterpart for the X350?

I bought a disc from a place I linked before. It works and the map is really newer, but it did not update anything, started working right away. So, might be better to get the original Volvo discs.

Same as my Volvo disk, I put it in and "Reading Maps" came up on the screen for about two seconds, then everything was normal. Maps are newer, so I don't see a problem.

Mine arrived last night, and I had the same experience. I even drove around a bit and stopped to swap discs. Nothing. But the new discs work fine. *

I was surprised to still see somewhat limited state coverage on the newer discs. I guess I was assuming Disc A was software update and Disc B would be all 50 states maps on a single disc. Not the case for me, but it's working fine and I've got the other disc in the trunk should the need arise for the other states whilst traveling east.

* Edited to add: I did upgrade to the 2012/2013 OEM Nav discs a while back, and that process added a software update step. Perhaps that step in the process was already completed back then.

So, it sounds like when you put in the Volvo DVD for the first time, it never did a software update, but instead, it left the software update from your 2012/2013 OEM DVD. Hmm... I was wonder if on your touch display screen, does it tell you what type of map is loaded, Navteq Maps or TeleAltas Maps. I’m just thinking outloud here, but if this Volvo disk uses Navteq Maps, I could somehow build my own DVD combining my XJ X350 OEM DVD and the Volvo Maps.

Cambo did something like I’m thinking of trying for my X350 back in 2014, with a Toyota/Lexus navigation map disk. Neither the X100 nor the X350 i own is my main means of transportation, so I think a burnt disk wil work out just fine for me. I too still have a VHS player. Hmm...

I couldn't see any logo other than the Jaguar logo on the screen, but that's from me going out into the garage and poking around the various options shown. Is there a specific screen location that could help me answer that for you?

I really don’t know where to look, maybe there's an "info" screen somewhere in the navigation system? I read that TomTom merged with TeleAltas and Nokia merged with Navteq a while back, so I’m thinking these maps on the Volvo disk are TeleAltas maps, but I’m reading that TomTom does use both map brands.

The format of the maps for the MMM2 system in the XK, XF, LR2, Volvo's, etc, is TOTALLY DIFFERENT to the Denso system used in the X-Type, S-Type and X350 XJ.

You might find a Toyota/Lexus disc which kind of works in the X-Type, S-Type and X350 XJ, but it'll be even slower and glitchier than the original Jag discs. Been there, done that...

If you have an X-Type, S-Type or X350 XJ, just use the original Jag discs... there is nothing else.

The software update in the latest Volvo discs that work in the XK/XF, is the latest version, but that does not mean it's a new version, it's likely to be the same as the discs from 2012 or so.

That might explain why yours updated the software and others just read in new data?

Probably, the disc that came out of my car was from 2008...

Do you know where I could find one of these Toyota/Lexus disc? if not, what should I search for, say in google, to find one? I’m sure you are correct about “there is nothing else”, but for some unknown reason, I want to play this out for myself. <grin>

What disk do you ask for at the Volvo dealership? Is there a part number? (2010 XK)

OK, so AFTER I stuck in that Volvo disk, all the maps are updated... BUT!!!!! Now I have NO voice during navigation! The map moves, I still get the Turns and such between the Tach and Speedo, but Not A Peep other than "Drive to the highlighted route and navigation will begin" or whatever.
Of course I tried turning Voice Guidance on and off, I also changed back and forth between English and Weird English.... nothing!
Tell me if I'm missing something (other than voices).
