I am a new XKR owner and have some confusion, in regards what I should see on the display. 2013 Jaguar XKR with 29,xxx miles on it. In reverse all sensors are working as they should showing distance from an object and tracks a person walking from area to area. When I go from reverse to drive, I get this message on the screen; most of the time but not always. (I am sure of this as I couldn't get the message to pop up at the local shop and they thought I was nuts.) I have tried it around vehicles and in empty parking lots, it almost always pops up. I had a local shop scan the car and nothing came back for codes for the park assist. They also verified each sensor is clicking as they should, and the system seems to be working as it should as well.
I asked a colleague who owned an XKR previously and he said it is not normal, however now it is at a Jaguar dealership, and they say it is normal. I cannot find a description of this screen in the owner's manual, and the only reference I have found online is when people are having issues with their park assist.
The reason I am posting this here instead of taking Jaguar's word for it, is because the first two phone calls with the service advisor and foreman I couldn't get them to understand I wasn't talking about the screen showing the distance from an object.
In the picture the center of the rear bumper has a single red dot on the bumper, which isn't showing up well in this photo. Again, this screen pops up after shifting from reverse to drive, no correlation to vehicle around or not.
So what is the problem exactly? You stated it works as it should.... so, then what?
Your concern is that the screen picture does not change maybe? It won't, even when in Drive, until the car goes 5-7 mph.
You can also manually dismiss that screen by just touching it once. There is also a button on the roof center stack where it can be disabled and enabled.
Whoever wrote the Parking Aid section of the Owner's Handbook must have a PhD in obfuscation.
It looks like:
1. the system is automatically ON when the vehicle is started (red and blue boxes)
2. it then goes OFF automatically when the vehicle exceeds 9 mph
3. it requires to be switched ON again when moving below 9 mph (see green and purple boxes)
Status is shown by the indicator light in the overhead console switch.
My reading of the above is the system is automatically activated with the first start up sequence but has to be manually activated when you come to park or it would be triggering in slow moving traffic or overtaking .....?
I am having the worst time explaining this clearly to people, I'll try again. I
The system does not have any fault codes, the reverse camera functions correctly, and when the interactive screen comes up, the sections highlight the distance and location of an object correctly. What I can't understand is if after the interactive screen is off, am I supposed to have the static screen that I posted. It is not shown in the manual, a previous XKR owner says it is not normal (it was his wife's car, so unsure how often he drove it), and a salesperson at our closest Jaguar dealership said based on my explanation (no pictures) that it wasn't normal, and I should have the service department look at it. Service says it is normal, I am just trying to find out before I go pick it up as they are an hour drive away.
I'm getting conflicting information, and I am just trying to find out if that screen is normal. Again, it pops up after moving the shifter from reverse to drive. The shown screen is static, it is NOT the interactive screen showing distance from objects. It has a single red indicator in the center of the rear bumper. The screen goes away after the vehicle is moving, I would have to check to see if it is around 10mph, the car is still at the dealership.

when I shift out of reverse (to N or D or P) the screen changes to the normal interactive screen(where you change select various functions), not the one you are showing.
BUT.....when my battery is low my screen gets stuck where it shouldn't be, how is your voltage?

The screen in your first post looks normal to me. I reverse out of my garage so that screen pops up. I then put the car in drive and head off down the road and when the car reaches a set speed that screen will disappear and it will return to the normal home screen.
I need the front parking sensors to safely get my car into my garage so I either press the button on the overhead console or pop the car into reverse and back to drive again. While no objects are detected the picture in your first post is all I see.
What is a little confusing though is that you refer to it as a message so perhaps I am missing something?
