The rear window has come away from the roof lining any ideas on the best way to repair the problem
cheers As you can see from the photo where the window has come away from the lining
There is a pretty long thread on this problem in here, try searching the forum for Rear Window Glass or similar. Also, since near total fail, it'd probably be best to replace the entire thing instead of a repair.
Sadly, your top is beyond the point of no repair because the glass is completely separated from the fabric. I have a lot of experience with prolonging the life of my top, and have successfully reattached my glass using Rhino Glue and Suck N Clamps. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-113105/page6/
Note that replacement tops are available on the US eBay website from several vendors who ship internationally. I suggest that you compare their delivered prices to those available to you locally in the UK.
Sorry for the bad news, but convertible tops don't last forever. Good luck!
My window started coming out; about 12 ins along the bottom edge. I tried re-glueing which lasted a year or so, but was messy, I believe the real culprit is the use of pressure washers on the window; over the years it weakens the adhesive seal.
Last June, I decided to bite the bullet because I hated the way it looked. It was really annoying to have to throw away a perfectly good, still-smart hood, even after 17 years of outside storage and many foldings.
I was recommended to try Kevin Baggs Trimming in Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. (+44 1202 744544) I visited his small unit on a modern industrial estate and was impressed by his work, his attitude, and the example of a green roof just like mine that he was about to fit to a jag just like mine.
I booked my car in for 10 days, and he ordered the roof. He did a great job in one day, and it cost me £1500. For this, I also got a heated rear window that now works. Nine months later, one of the hood liner side trims started folding back out of alignment, so I took it back to him and he fixed it in about an hour.
I am delighted with the job, and it has restored my pleasure in the car, which took a knock every time I noticed the mess I had made in re-glueing the window bottom seal. The new hood seems identical to the old one and fits perfectly.
I would highly recommend Kevin to anyone who can get his/her car to Bournemouth for one day. Maybe Kevin could tell someone who cant, where he buys his hoods?
And yes, with hind sight I made the right decision, costly and annoying as it was.
Now, when I take the car to a hand wash, I ask them not to use their pressure washer on the rear window, which they understand and obey fully.
I'm a Veteran 🇺🇸 and Buy American whenever possible. That's why I returned the top I bought on eBay - it had a Fuyao glass window. My new top's glass is made by AutoTemp, an American company in Ohio.
My 2010 had this, I messed around for ages with JB Weld and so on, which kept giving up, and in the end I boughtthe adhesive that's used to bond front windscreens in. This held but it was obvious that the roof was shrinking with age and pulling the fabric away from the glass so it wouldn't last.
I got a new hood from BAS international in the UK, fitted by them on site for £1,700. 3 month wait though.
I've noticed a lot of these cars at trade auction have the rear screens dropping out. You see the same thing on Audis.
