Default Sad Goodbye

It's killing me, my 2007 XKR was totaled by the insurance co for what seemed a minor fender bender, even after I was able to get them to agree to a fair market value of 16K and the repair estimate if 11K they still won't fix it.
all my mods down the drain. I'm looking at a 2017 BMW M240i Convertible.
Anyways, I wanted to say goodbye and thank you to all the great people on here and all that I was able to learn along the way.

Good luck to you and whatever you end up buying to replace the Jag. Enjoy! PS.... It's amazing how easily XKs get totalled!

If the percentage cost to fix it is over 60 percent I believe, it is considered a total loss..

Glad u had an agreed value..

Maybe you could have gotten a greater one with a different company...

Premiums would be higher but they wouldn't have totaled it!

Maybe the rules are different here in the UK but our XK had a minor accident (not me driving!) a couple of years ago which I reported to the insurance company who then said that they would write off the car, pay us a value and that our premiums would be adversely affected. I asked for all record of the incident and my reporting of it to be deleted as I would repair the damage myself and using a local body shop. The insurance company were happy to forget all about the incident and our premiums were not affected.

In the UK there's no particular advantage to a classic car policy over and above a standard policy other than the fact that a classic policy can have an agreed value. I have a classic policy for my 1973 Triumph but I would not consider it for a 2006 daily-use vehicle as you need to restrict mileage and conditions of use to get the premium reductions of a classic policy.

EXACTLY!!

No hassle agreed value that you can set...

Not leaving it up to the insurance company on what they want to pay you.

HUGE difference..

Errrrr ..... nope. That's not how it works over here. You don't set the value. The insurance company set the value on the basis of their information plus the evidence that you send to them.
However, that's not the point. The insurance company offered me a realistic write-off value for the XK but I didn't want to write it off as I knew it was fixable for a reasonable sum.

Back in the 80s had 2 instances where my car was totaled..

Refused to accept their offer..

Ended up accepting their amount...plus the car!

They were all too willing to settle....

Worked out great for me..

EVERYTHING is negotiable....

If you don't try..you never find out..

If I had let the insurance company write off the car they would have classified it as a Category S write-off which would mean that it would have to be re-registered after repair and the fact that it had been Cat S would be attached to the official record and would legally have to be declared to future buyers.

I've not gone far into the details, but the classics/specialist car insurance with Peter James in arrangement with the UK Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club appears to be more customer friendly in terms of mileage limits, values, and damage claims. I don't know how they compare on cost.
