Default Stiff powerfold mirrors - lubrication??

I've done a search of this forum and gone through 4 pages with no luck

My powerfolds do work, just that they make a bit too much of noise, I'd not expect it on a premium marque and would like theme to be as silent as possible

Can they be serviced/lubricated?

Once again have searched this forum, also the web with some saying coppergrease, some however advising that it's abrasive and shouldn't be used with WD40 only a temp fix as will soon return to normal.

Advice?

I've a slightly different car but my rear shells pop off - it's scary - and you can then apply light oil to the moving parts.

I'd also avoid the things you mention.

Default powerfold mirrors -don't

My mirror issue is probably related. Mine don't fold unless I hit the lock button on the fob. I forget if that is standard or some way that I have it configured. Anyway, the other day I locked the car with the fob, the mirrors folded, but when I opened the car, the drivers mirror didn't fully unfold. I manually pulled it out, but didn't like the idea..I imagine that it needs some lub, but have stopped hitting the key when I walk away from the car, so not really facing the issue.
Any suggestions?

Noisy as in plastic-to-plastic scraping or as in the motor action?

I do find the XK powerfold motor noisy and considerably more so than my 2005 XK8 and X308 which both had the same option. The later cars have larger mirrors which may contribute to this.

I think this was an OPTION on the early European specification XK 4.2's. US specification may be different because that market normally gets more included in the standard specification.

I suggest 3 in 1 light machine oil, but I really don't know enough about system to tell you where to apply it!!

Sorry, Cheers, Adrian

Apologies a 2014 so dynamic R, I'll update my signature later today:-)

I switched them on in the menus and they do work, not a plastic sound more motor resistance.

Car was unused from May 2017 until Feb 2018 and from then it's only covered 700 miles, 150 of that in my ownership

I would be careful pulling the mirror covers unless you have to. The plastic tabs that hold the covers on can be brittle and break when removing, then your left with having to repair tabs.... I know this from when I changed my covers to CF covers...
