Default Stock Tires on 2009 XKR

I'm looking to purchase a 2009 XKR with 18,800 miles and wondering what brand of tires the car would have been delivered with. It currently has Hancocks.

Probably Pirelli or Dunlop. These cars have a lot of torque so they tend to wear out the rear tires first. Has it got Hankooks all around?

I have a 2013 XKR with Pirelli tires. I only have 5,000 miles on the car and I drive it carefully. However, I notice considerable wear on my rear tires. They will need to be replaced before I reach 10,000 miles. I would not be concerned if the 2009 your interested in has had a tire change at 18,000 miles--it is normal.

I currently own a 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition. I am certain that the original tires that came on the car were Dunlop tires.

I have recently changed out the OEM tires at 14,500 miles for the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tires. My car has only 16,400 miles currently.

While the Hankook tires are low priced, they do provide excellent performance.

Having the Hankook's on this Jag XKR that you are considering shows that these are replacement tires, which really means nothing to the car buyer.

Finding a 2009 XKR with only 18,800 miles was a great find. There are a few 2009 Jaguar XKR's listed on eBay currently with under 20,000 miles.

Thanks for the replies. Yes there are Hancock all around and they're in good shape, so it makes sense.

Keep in mind that most XKRs are equipped with staggered wheels (different sizes front and rear) and directional tires, which means they can't be rotated. As a result, in such cases, tire manufacturers cut their mileage warranty in half. So, a high performance directional tire with a 30,000 mile treadwear warranty will be warranted for only 15,000 miles when installed on staggered wheels.

So if the car you're looking at has staggered wheels, a new set of tires at around 15,000 miles would be expected. How aggressively you drive is a big factor in tread life, together with inflation and alignment.

Have you noticed a gas mileage reduction with the Handkook's?
I did, about 1-1.5 mpg..............fab ride tho!

I honestly think it is impossible for anyone to make a determination of whether the driver is getting more or less mileage on a particular set of tires, as driving conditions and the weight of ones foot on the gas pedal varies from day to day.

I have had the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's on several of my cars. I have been well satisfied with them.

All I can say, to me; they are a good tire for the price. Stuart S (Post#7 above) made a great point here on the forum that on our cars with staggered tire setups, the tires cannot be rotated, thus a shorter life of any tire.

To be honest, I drive the car to enjoy it. There are certain roads and spots that I like to "get down" on the pedal, so I will get less mileage then.

I don't drive the Jaguar that often (2009 with 16,500 miles), so my Hankooks will most likely last a longer period of time vs mileage. At 3000 to 4000 miles per year, I suspect I will get good tire wear over the next 3 to 4 years. If I have to end up spending $800 to $1000 every 4 to 5 years for tires, I consider the cost very low when you amortize the cost vs time.

If you drive your Jaguar allot more, and really "get down" on the pedal, the tires will wear faster, and mileage of course will decline.

My advice, don't worry about mileage, gas is very cheap now, enjoy the ride. We have great cars especially if you have a SC model. These babies are FAST!

This may be a little sacrilegious to some but as mentioned on a few posts the stagger doesn't allow for tire rotation. So if one wanted to install a set of front rims on the rear then other then the tire patch you would be able to rotate and get extended mileage on a set of tires. If this is done is there a problem with the off set on the rears or will the smaller width rim not be a problem. For someone who uses the car for weekend cruising or the daily driver this shouldn't be a problem. For those who track their cars or drive in a more spirited fashion they could stick with the original set up. Just posting an option here for discussion.

I wasn't complaining about the handkook's; the ride is truly smooth. Because I drive mainly the same route each time I was just curious about mpg's..............not bothered; would buy them again because of the super ride and I only drive a few 1000 miles a year anyway.............get same mileage as my Honda CRV!(about 22).

I didn't thnk you were complaining at all on the Hankooks. My ride is pretty good also.
