Default Tire Recommendations for 2014 XK-R

I need to put new rubber on my 2014 XK-R. This car is my daily driver, but I drive well under 10k miles a year. I live in Atlanta, so weather is generally warm even in the winter. I do like some spirited driving, but I don't track this car, I have a Widow Maker for that.

I have Michelin Sport Pilot on now. They have been ok, not too loud and reasonably grippy except I do feel the back end breaks loose a bit too quickly. Especially on launch. The are roughly $1,800 for the set.

The other tire being recommended by my local performance tire store (where I take my Porsche and where I see a lot of P-cars and other higher end sports and track cars) is The Conti Extreme Contact. These are slightly cheaper at about $1,400.

And recommendations or comments about either of these two options?

If the treadwear rating on Michelin is higher than Continental whatever, go with Contis.

For performance, P4S, for wear and all-season Continental's a great choice as are others from Bridgestone, Goodyear, etc

Do you get the Continental SportContact 7 in the US - a summer tyre that compares very well with the MP4S and seems to suit the XKR well too! The new Pirelli P-Zero 5 is getting some good reviews too:

Some very up-to-date info here: https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre-Tes...s-For-2025.htm

I am immensely happy with Contis SP7, worlds better than Michelin PS4 (no S).

My friend had new PS4S in a Mustang and basically complained about the same thing as me with PS4 - they need good warming up before they offer grip.

Contis give it to you right off the bat.

Also 8mm tread Michelins are entirely different tyres than 4-5mm tread Michelins even in dry environment. Contis seem to hold up much better.

Will NEVER buy Michelins again in my LIFE. I won't even take them for free. I won't take them if they come on a FREE Koenigsegg. Not even if that Koenigsegg came with a free mansion. Nope. Won't do it. I don't want to die because tires killed me.

I dunno. I’d take the free stuff, then change the tires.

I just put Vredestein Ultra Pros on my new wheels last month and I'm very happy with them. From what I've seen they reviewed comparable to other high end tires in European tests (especially in wet conditions), and because Vredestein is trying to break into the US market they are priced very aggressively.

Summer only for those Vredestein tires though, although a decent price.

I have Conti Extreme Contact on mine, and I have been quite happy with them.

If you want confidence in the wet and are only driving on public roads, the Conti Extreme Contact DWS all season is a good choice. My XKR came with a new set so I was going to learn to like them no matter what, but they are not bad at all on dry roads unless you are doing things you shouldn't had oughta be doin' on puiblic roads anyway.

I've heard the DWS were noisy, but I have no actual experience with them. I purchased a set of Michelin 4S a year or so ago, and am super happy with them. Quiet and grip the road. However, they are only a summer tire. Expensive. I've heard good things about the DWS other than noise. The Pilots are supposed to be OK, but possibly noisy and somewhat stiff riding. If it were me and I lived up North, I'd might consider the DSWs.
