Tire Recommendations for 2014 XK-R
I need to put new rubber on my 2014 XK-R. This car is my daily driver, but I drive well under 10k miles a year. I live in Atlanta, so weather is generally warm even in the winter. I do like some spirited driving, but I don't track this car, I have a Widow Maker for that.
I have Michelin Sport Pilot on now. They have been ok, not too loud and reasonably grippy except I do feel the back end breaks loose a bit too quickly. Especially on launch. The are roughly $1,800 for the set.
The other tire being recommended by my local performance tire store (where I take my Porsche and where I see a lot of P-cars and other higher end sports and track cars) is The Conti Extreme Contact. These are slightly cheaper at about $1,400.
And recommendations or comments about either of these two options?

Do you get the Continental SportContact 7 in the US - a summer tyre that compares very well with the MP4S and seems to suit the XKR well too! The new Pirelli P-Zero 5 is getting some good reviews too:

I am immensely happy with Contis SP7, worlds better than Michelin PS4 (no S).
My friend had new PS4S in a Mustang and basically complained about the same thing as me with PS4 - they need good warming up before they offer grip.
Contis give it to you right off the bat.
Also 8mm tread Michelins are entirely different tyres than 4-5mm tread Michelins even in dry environment. Contis seem to hold up much better.

Have always had Michelins..
Paid $800 for my wifes epace....so much better than stock tires which I believe were continentals....
watch for rebates......were $1200 list....
Will NEVER buy Michelins again in my LIFE. I won't even take them for free. I won't take them if they come on a FREE Koenigsegg. Not even if that Koenigsegg came with a free mansion. Nope. Won't do it. I don't want to die because tires killed me.

I just put Vredestein Ultra Pros on my new wheels last month and I'm very happy with them. From what I've seen they reviewed comparable to other high end tires in European tests (especially in wet conditions), and because Vredestein is trying to break into the US market they are priced very aggressively.
If you want confidence in the wet and are only driving on public roads, the Conti Extreme Contact DWS all season is a good choice. My XKR came with a new set so I was going to learn to like them no matter what, but they are not bad at all on dry roads unless you are doing things you shouldn't had oughta be doin' on puiblic roads anyway.
