Default what extended warranty should i get?

I'm considering a 2007 model. A dealer that was trying to sell me on a Lexus sc430 was telling me that i would need a $22k extended warranty to cover am 07 Jag XK. That sounds like it's horribly wrong. But i don't know where to start and I'm not sure if buying one from a dealer would just be a ripoff or where i should get one.

Go look that dealer right in the eye, and tell him he is an idiot! Then laugh in his face and say you would never buy any car off such a stupid person.

Sounds like the idiot dealer who actually SOLD an old Geo Metro to my then-ex-wife in like 1992.... my oldest kid told me that his mom got into trouble buying a car, so I volunteered my services.... seems that the dealer told the chick that in order to buy a two year old Geo Metro for $2500, he would mandate a $3000 ENGINE-ONLY warranty or she couldn't buy it. Well, she did. That's when my oldest kid told me. I got it returned with only $1 per mile driven for the two days she had the thing. It was still like $300, and she's still that stupid (far as I know, haven't spoken since my youngest chose to live with me and the older kids were gone)

Read this entire thread before you decide to buy any extended service contract. Your decision of what to do will be based on your evaluation of whether you are better off to buy a 4-year extended service contract for $5,000 or put that money in the bank to pay for possible repairs over that same time period. Buyer beware - many extended service contracts are intentionally vague and ambiguous to enable the Administrator to decline coverage. Read the fine print and don't rely on anything the seller tells you. The document controls.

Did you just shoot yourself in the foot? In your defense, she couldn't have been that stupid to have married you. Or could she?

I purchased a $3600 6 year extended warranty over 5 years ago with about 10 months left on it now. Would you like to know how many times I had to use it???? ZERO!! Still have 10 months left, but I'm not expecting anything. Would I do it again? Yes......but not with a car that only had 4,600 miles on it and I drive less than 1,000 miles a year. Live and learn.

Naw, I was the idiot in that case. Worst wife I ever had, and I've had a bunch.

Since you're in Utah where polygamy was legal, I thought you'd enjoy this language test.

1. What do you call it when a man has 3 or more wives at the same time? Polygamy. Correct!

2. What do you call it when a man has 2 wives at the same time? Bigamy. Correct again!

3. What do you call it when a man has 1 wife? Monogamy. Wrong. The correct answer is Monotony!

Hey, I got married four times, divorced once, and my latest wife is the best one (so far).

Well I suppose there is a metaphoric correlation between bad judgement in marriages and extended warranties.
Yes the moral of the story is dont depend on those too eager to marry you, at a high price no less.

To pull this thread back on topic...

I've had a great experience with my warranty. BUT... you're asking for a warranty on a 12 year old exotic.

I don't think the salesman was horrible. I think he was kidding. Like... "this guy wants a warranty on a 12 year old jag? OK, well... 20 grand. Sure. For 20 grand we can warranty a 12 year old jag."

"12 year old car" and "warranty" are sort of mutually exclusive. Pick one.
