Default What model do I have?

Hi
It might seem like a trivial question, but here goes.
The build date on my car is marked as October 2006 and the compliance for Australia as January 2007. Is my car considered a 2006 or a 2007 model and is there a difference between the two?
Thanks

Here in NZ you would have a 2007 because they go by registration date but from a manufacturing year point of view, you can work it out from the VIN. The 2007 MY started with B06784.

I see 2007MY cars here being advertised as 2009 models, presumably because they took a little while to sell.

Apart from the XKR being introduced in 2007 the first big changes happened for the 2008MY.

The answer to this question will vary from country to country - you have the answer for New Zealand, and Australia may be similar. For Canada, a car built in October 2006 is registered as a 2007 model - anything built after Jaguar's MY end (around June/July) is a following-year model. My 2007 was built in October 2006 (and the VIN is B109XX) - but it is most definitely a 2007 model and listed as such on the factory build record - and yours will be too.
The British have a different (and to colonial minds impenetrable) registration system...they DID have 2006 MY cars like ours.

Here is the Jaguar list of Model Year VIN introductions for the XK/XKR:

For the factory, a new Model Year is the stage at which design updates are introduced primarily to encourage sales. This is not the same as Calendar Year nor necessarily what different country vehicle registration authorities may apply as 'model year' in the vehicle documentation.

Thanks for that. That would mean that my car is considered MY07 here in Oz.

I think my car was made at the same time as yours the VIN is also B109XX.

The UK system is based on registration-year range (March-August and September-February), not the actual year of registration, manufacture year or model year. So, mine is a MY11, but was registered in October 2010 so is a "60" car (2010-11 registration year = "10" + 50 because it's the second half of the registration year)

Yup...impenetrable logic for those of us (even Commonwealth members) outside the UK. I think you have to grow up in Britain to understand - it's a bit like the pre-metric monetary system, the fact that blind people get a *discount* on their TV licenses, the fact that on earlier Jaguars the glove box light only worked if the main lights were on...fun, but eccentric - and very charming.

I haven't always lived here, but the system becomes pretty straight-forward when you're into cars and surrounded by it. It's quite useful to be able to fairly accurately assess a car's age just by looking at the license plate.

To fund our advertising-free BBC, there's a tax on live-to air TV. £150/year, and you can have as many TVs in the house as you like. Most people are prepared to pay it to avoid having to watch adverts on BBC channels - if you're on benefits, you don't pay.
