Default Whirring noise on engine off - normal?

Hi

Wanted to confirm whether this sound is normal and what that might be:

need to turn the volume up a bit, constant whirring.

This is with engine off.

This is a friends XK but my does the same, both 5.0ltr N/A. I only noticed after he pointed it out.

Probably the aspirator. Little fan behind the slotted area above your knee. Search this forum for ‘aspirator’, you’ll find several threads, like this one:

Brachacz:
I encountered the same sound when I first bought my 2008 Jaguar. I learned that it's a normal process and turns off a few minutes later.

I also learned it's best to put it in sleep mode "lock-it" and I can go 2-3 weeks with no battery drain and no trickle charger.

I will say that your fan sounds louder and less constant than mine. Maybe the fan needs a drop of oil to quiet it down a bit.

Most likely it’s just dirty.

Yes pull it out and clean it first. They get surprisingly dirty.

Indeed it was quite dirty. After vacuuming , the noise is a bit quieter, good to know it isn't something serious.

After removing a screw, I didn't really like the idea of having to cut the foam to get the whole assembly out, don't really have anything to replace it on hand.

Of course while disassembling, I broke one of the plastic tabs keeping the fascia in place but I hope superglue will suffice.
