Hi All ,
I bought my XK8 in the UK and shipped it out to OZ.
It arrived with no key fob so locking and unlocking by key was fine as long as long as I got the key in the ignition before 10 seconds to prevent the alarm going off.
I've just had it in at Fonte Motors in Perth for a few jobs and they bought a second hand key fob from Roadbend Jaguar to fix this problem but they could not program the keyfob to the SLM. ( The keyfob has been tested and is transmitting 433mhz).
I've just removed the SLM to get it tested , not sure where yet but while I was in there I noticed this little battery (dead) stuck onto some kind of module??
Any pointers on where in Perth I can get it tested?
Any pointers to what else in the security set up needs testing?
Any pointers on what the battery is for?
Thanks for the prompt heads up Dibbit.
You wouldve thought a Jaguar specialist who bought the keyfob from a Jaguar dealer would know these things between them!
I will take the fob back hoping for the funds to be returned.
Ive ordered 2 new 433mhz cheap knock off fobs from ebay to try.
Fingers crossed but no big deal if they dont work.
By the way , I see from the link you posted the visual differences between the pre 2000 and post 2000 fobs but do you know the internal / transmitting difference?
Kind regards,
Ian
No, I don't know what the hardware differences are between the two fobs (maybe someone else has some knowledge of this?), other than the older one uses two coin cells and the later only one. I assume that Jaguar updated the security and stopped using the Ford key fobs as one of the many improvements they made over the 10 year life of the cars - or maybe they just wanted to stop people buying cheap Ford fobs rather than the pricey ones from the Jaguar dealers.
Hi Dibbit,
You are correct re the module with the 6V battery. It is indeed a Tracker.
Still no resolution found for the remote control units. Seems no one has a fix.
I import various bits and bobs from China and visit regularly. Im thinking if its worthwhile taking the Module to Shenzen to see if they can produce something that will do the job.
Regards,
Ian M
