2000 XK8 conv. window problem
I let the exterior driver's door handle slip from my hand while opening the door, grabbing it immediately after it slipped. I heard the window readjust the second time. The door is now ajar and I have to manually lower/adjust the window with the window switch to correct the over raising of the window. I have tried resetting the windows on both sides. I have not disconnected the battery for a total reset. Is this likely to be in the adjustment screws or a microswitch in the door actuator? Thanks!
I had a similar experience a few months ago while the car was new to me. I lowered the driver's window while the door was open. This seemed to make the windows confused as to where they were in the program. The only action I knew at the time that cycled all the windows was to lower the top (have both doors closed and engine running), wait 10-15 seconds and then raise it again until locked. The windows have behaved since then. Maybe it will work in your situation.
Mark,
This is a classic sign of a low battery charge IMO. Windows can get wacky with just a small amount of discharge. If you can, I'd hook up a charger for an hour or so. Very unlikely to be a bad switch.

Thanks, John. My battery is less than a year old. I drive the car about 100 miles per week. Any idea what the voltage would be on the battery to cause the problem? Also, my door ajar light does not come on when the door is ajar. I have a code reader. If not a low battery is there a code that would give me a clue as to what else could be going on? Thanks for your help!

No worries... Now, to dig into that door. I have the same job ahead of me as well. Fun fun.
I am not looking forward to it. Looks like it will be worse than replacing injectors and glow plugs in my '84 300D. I'm planning on the battery check and the easy stuff first, you can believe that.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Well, before I had a chance to replace the driver's door microswitch, I came home today and the passenger window was down. Of course it was pouring rain. It would not go up, so I lowered the driver's window, and alas, it won't go up. Both rear quarter windows travel up and down. Battery is less than a year old and I drove the car 75 miles Saturday and Sunday. It starts easily. Any advice appreciated. I have the car covered, but the window switches, etc are wet. I have a code reader but have not checked for error codes yet.
Thanks!

I would have sworn that they were both up on Sunday afternoon when I parked. I had to raise the top and I can’t imagine I only raised the driver side. Odd that both rear windows work. I’m thinking my first point of attack should be to charge the battery but I don’t understand why it starts so easily and why back windows operate
Well I fixed my window problem. I slept well, sneaked under the car cover, started the jag and both window switches worked. Rolled right up. It’s becoming obvious to me that these cars weren’t wired by Tesla or Edison, nor were they put together by Spitfire mechanics.

The 1/4 windows and the mains work on very different lines of communication in these beasts, so, not so odd that one set worked and not the other. Also, there is BUS (I believe) communication between the drivers and passenger window sets and,,, well, for me, the whole BUS system is a magical mystery. Mertz is the exper here.
