Default 2000 xk8 start up faults

This is not a consistent thing but here goes. Every once in a while after the ignition is engaged to crank the car, it will not start. The systems check shows a low brake fluid reservoir followed by a gearbox fault. After about 10 minutes or so I can turn the ignition on and it will start up and run with no issues. It has about 60k miles on it and seems very mechanically sound. Any input on this inconsistent irritating issue???

The brake reservoir is not low by the way.

Have the health of your battery checked first. The ignition puts a heavy load on the battery, which can cause strange electronic faults due to low voltage if the battery is weak. The internal heat generated by the first attempt to start may then temporarily cause the battery to put out slightly more voltage and current on the next try after a few minutes.

BTW, this is the 2006 and later XK section, so one of the moderators may move your post.

Charge or replace the battery and check the ground points.

Default 2000 xk8 start up faults

Sometimes this XK8 WILL NOT START. When it doesn't it gives a low brake fluid reservoir fault (which is not low)along with a gearbox fault. Sometimes, the next turn of the key, could be as long as 10 minutes before it will go away(or reset) and it will start and run like a champ. Anyone have any info or past experience with this. 2 dealerships have failed to find the issue.

It has also shut itself down while driving once, which to me is a safety concern. Any suggestions

I'd suggest you check your battery voltage and connections, ensure all are tight and clean. Flexing voltage wreaks havoc with these cares

I agree totally.

Just because a battery has enough 'oomph' to start a car, doesn't mean that the battery is good.

Have it 'load tested'.

Sounds like battery or power/ground or other wiring fault, such as ignition switch.

No you didn't - you duplicated it in this XK8/XKR section!

I've moved it from XK/XKR and merged the two threads.
